Default 1952 Topps "Canadian"

Somehow the notion gained currency that the 1952 Topps gray back 3rd series are "Canadian". Apparently arguing by analogy with the real Canadian issue of 1954 Topps (1-50) dark gray back issue. There are at least 3 and possible more distinct printing variations of the '52 3rd series. All were printed and primarily distributed in the USA. This topic will require more extensive treatment.
This post covers the only real 1952 Canadian (O-Pee-Chee) issue I've seen,
See attached two examples. As is apparent these are individual cards cut from 1st series ad panels and stickered. Interestingly the 1st series never was widely distributed in Canada in 1952 if at all.

I've never seen these, either, and London is my hometown. Salesman's samples.

Wonder what "36 count" refers to.

Seems like it would be 36 packs in a box, 50% more than the US boxes, and would mean a bigger box.

For comparison here is the back of a '52 Topps US panel.

Anthony,

Thanks. That was my suspicion, but my mind wandered to other tantalizing, magical possibilities! We can only dream.

What's the earliest evidence of the Topps/O-Pee-Chee partnership? Does it predate the cards that started ~1948?
