Jodi,
On the Robert Adams Jr thread you mentioned bricks from George Gibson's barn. Tell us more.
I have a couple bricks from the left field wall of Forbes Field (acquired by myself during demolition one late night years ago), so bricks caught my attention.
Any other bricks out there?
John

I also thought Jodi's mention was interesting and would enjoy hearing details.

The only brick I have is from League Park in Cleveland. What I really like about it is that it has a "C" on the face of it. I'll try to take a photo later and post it.

I was in Chicago when they were tearing down Comiskey and we drove out (at night) to take a look...I wanted to get out and snag a brick...they had a big huge pile of them with white paint on them, but my buddy said no way, too dangerous of an area.

This is funny because it reminds me of my Baseball "Brick" story. I was able to visit and walk through Harry Stoveys house in New Bedford Massachusetts a few years ago. The owner was a very nice Hispanic couple and let me go all over including in the attic and down in the basebment and even fed me a tamale. The house is falling into disrepair and the chimney was breaking apart so I offered $20 for a box full of bricks and an old porch post that was down in the basement and a few other things. I have had about 3-4 bricks in my garage thinking that a few close friends in SABR and on this forum would want one and I had NO takers. Everyone I offered them to for free told me that they were not interested. For a while I thought I was weirder than everyone else. It is a good thing I still think they are cool. It was really fun to able to walk through his house but I wish I could have done it in the 1920's and asked for a few hundred autographs!

Rhys,
Clean up the brick and slap a felt sheet on the bottom, to protect furniture or whatever it would sit on. You may want to mount a little brass plate with the Harry Stovey particulars. I did this with my Forbes Field brick. It makes a great display item.

I don't know about sports related bricks, but I do know someone that has a brick from George Washington's original birthplace home (Wakefield). It burned down over 200 years ago. One of their relatives picked it up during excavations there in the 1930s.

Rhys, you're not wierd at all.

Compared to the guy that paid five hundred bucks for this:

Now just exactly what the heck do you do with that thing anyway?

(although a section of the old trough at Fenway would be cool)

John, was your brick part of a larger slab or section that you broke up by hand? That's an incredibly clean looking brick! Must not have been anywhere near the path of the wrecking ball.

As I recall a portion was in the process of being demolished. We entered through the outfield somewhere and had pretty much the entire outfield wall for the taking. There were 3 or 4 of us. We boosted one guy up the wall and there he sat, thumping and beating on the wall "cap" (a ceramic-concrete-like-lid) that covered the top of the wall. Once that came loose, then we removed about 20 bricks, and loaded up the car. I kept the cap too

I chipped off the mortar and cleaned up the brick as you can see, turning it in to a "trophy".
