Wow! You guys are like a virtual card show. We're only at March 5th. So far the pickups and the stories behind them equal any month I've looked at yet. Congratulations to all of you!

Since we're discussing Jim:

Who else would 'flat Stanley" an Anson cabinet to meet the Dalai Lama?

What struck me most about him was his humility. There are so many self-important asshats in the hobby, yet here was a guy with a collection that was plain scary awesome who flew under the radar unless he was your friend. No aggrandizement, no denigration of other collectors, just honest joy in sharing this weird obsession of ours with the rest of us freaks. He'd spark over a $1 common if it made you happy, same as over a $10,000 rarity.

I bet this thread makes him smile, wherever he is.

I still think of Jim often and miss him greatly.

This particular T204 W. Johnson will forever have ties to Jim’s legacy!

Ryan, enjoy the card my friend!

Despite the peripheral condition issues, its never a bad day to pick up an early Plank and Waddell. And a few T206s

Found this at a new card show in the FL Panhandle (Milton, just east of Pensacola):
1933 Goudey autographed by Yankee HOF Bill Dickey.

I'll probably set up a table next time they have it. I heard the Panama City one also came back recently.

Couple of hole punches, but can't beat the $50 price. Last Poor PSA/DNA example sold for $375.

That's really cool, especially for $50.

That photo of JimB is great. The closest thing I could compare to would be, when I was about 12, my family went to Rome. I was told we were going to have an audience with the pope. I thought that meant we were going to meet the pope. We went to a courtyard with about 25.000 people and he drove by in a golf cart and waived. It looked like a Rage Against The Machine concert with everyone packed in. Also, I have a RudyT auto'd restaurant menu, personalized to me, from when my parents went to dinner in the early 80's.

Default Big day at the Post Office

After a super slow start to the year, I had a few recent wins arrive today at the post office.

Picked up a couple more T204 catchers, Larry McLean and PJ Moran. The Patrick Moran is my first blank backed T204.

Also picked up a George Keifel batting pose T210.

I don't have any reason to believe it's fake, as the eBay seller has several positive feedbacks for selling other A&Gs. There were multiple other bidders, and the final price was not unduly low - maybe 10% lower than I had expected. The print dots seem consistent with the tobacco cards I have, and it passes the black light test. But I don't have any other A&Gs to compare it with, so please let me know if anything makes you think it's fake. The stock feels quite thick and sturdy, more so than T206s for example.

One issue is that it measures 1/16" short of 1.5"x2.75" in both directions. Can A&Gs have size variations, or is this one likely trimmed? The right edge looks a little crooked/bowed in the photo, but it seems ok when I line it up against the edge of a top loader.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!
One of the nicest looking cards in the set. Took me a while to realize that he isn't miming batting, he is ready to pitch without a glove.

Huge pickup for me tonight. I managed to snag the 13 card T206 Southern Leaguers lot on ebay. Among the 13 were a few of the toughest SLers to find, including Manion, Hickman, Revelle, Greminger, and Kiernan. 10 of the 13 had the OMSL back, and I want to have all of the SLers with an Old Mill back, so that was just an added bonus. Thrilled.

Nice grab. I'm also going pretty heavy after SL'ers right now...I forgot about this auction.

I came across a 1938 Dizzy Dean Service Station Card yesterday and snapped it up. I haven't seen one before. It meets my criteria of a unique, oddball card.

https://prewarcards.com/2016/09/12/1...and-checklist/

I think this card is the same one that was sold in 2012: https://brockelmanauctions.com/lot-3800.aspx

Awesome Red Hindu, you probably had to pry that cardboard gold away, lol

Here is a card that has avoided my collection

Default Nashville card show pick-ups

I was disappointed in the vintage available at the show yesterday in Nashville until I got to the last row. I should have started there I guess. Nothing too major, but all raw and affordable... just the way I like 'em!

Picked these up from Al J (not knowing it was his stuff). Negro league & Cuban 1923/24 Tomas Gutierrez album with Armando Marsans (1st Cuban player in MLB to make an impact).

Picked up a few cards in an auction, including this 1939 Play Ball of Lefty Gomez. The card has some white shmootz on the front of it. Anyone have a guess what that could be or how to clean it off?
