Standard Catalog T207 pricing all wrong
Posted By: Bob Lemke
Bugger all! I've just been informed by John Billingsley that virtually the entire T207 listing in the new (2005) SCBC is wrong. In trying to eliminate the "wrong back" Carrigan and Wagner cards, the prices were not deleted. The result is that every T207 price from #(26) through (18) is two lines too high, and from #(182) through the end of the set is three lines too high. I'll get a corrected version printed in SCD in the next month or so for your future reference, but this is going to confuse a lot of casual collectors. Look on the bright side, maybe you can sell your Otto Millers for $600 and buy your Ward Millers for $30. Damn! |

Besides, no one uses your prices anyway for T207s or E cards |

They just upgraded mine to 2-day shipping, and took away the shipping costs, but that isn't going to do me any good if they don't have the book. Which they don't yet, they say. |

I tried to order the 2005 SC from Amazon.com, but they don't have it in stock yet and I cancelled because I believe the SHIPPING date wasn't until 9/27. They are in stock at WalMart.com, so I placed an order for mine and I should get it between 9/27-10/1. I used WalMart's standard shipping, so it's basically the same price as it would be at Amazon with the Free SuperSaver shipping. |

Just for the record I will be selling all my Otto Millers for less than book at around $425.00 each. All Otto's are on a first come first serve basis. |

I passed on Amazon and placed an order for the 2005 scd from WalMart.com because their website said they had it in stock, only to find out an hour later that it's on backorder and they don't know when they will be shipping. |

2-day delivery. I don't have time to call them--in fact, it's probably too early in the morning--and find out if if that's just whistling in the dark, or whether they really have the books now. Later. |

I appreciate your support. Sad to say the "proof" versions (there are actually three) were trashed after the book was on press. I'd love to see if the error showed up on any or all of them. I can't believe that I looked at those pages three different times -- and that the company's professional proofreaders went over the final set with a fine-tooth comb -- and didn't notice the missing prices for cards #198-200, which would have tipped me that something was amiss. It is virtually certain that a "corrected" version of the book will be issued. Pre-orders for the edition have eaten up more than half the press run already. We had to go back to press with the 2004 book, and will certainyl do so again. For those who invest in annually obsoleted reference boos/door stops, the smart money is on the 2nd printing, which will likely be only 10% of the first. |

I agree with Leon...I think it's a great idea, and there would be no loss in revenue. |

The most ingenious way of eliminating all cards from 1940 to the present from the SCD book and stil maintaining a tight, usable guide. |

I beleive a problem is the cost of binding. Binding twice would be cost prohibitive. |

How about printing it in it's current form and also unbound with 3 holes punched so it can be put into binders. This way you can divide it up any way you like. |

Slice off the back half with a carpet cutter or strong x-acto knife, then slice off the vintage minor league section. Tape the two together and put a wide piece of tape over the binding - works perfectly. Heck, you only use these things for a year - they don't have to look pretty. |

no sweat Bob, thanks for the heads up, Dad and I have the data to correct the entire diamond star section with the correct variations and printed dates on the back bottom of the issue. What is my deadline to get this to you for the 2006 book? Dan. |

Thanks for the Diamond Stars update, Dan. Since this will require considerable effort to reformat, I'd have to have all data in hand by Dec. 31. Generally when the calendar changes over to the New Year, all my efforts go into price updating, rather than listing enhancements. |

I really like the loose leaf idea. Everyone could be responsible for their own 3 ring binder, or Krause could also sell a three ring binder with the Standard Catalog name on the outside that people could purchase if they want. |

I would like to see pre-war only, higher-quality paper, (loose-leaf would have advantages) with room to the side of the price guidelines to add my own prices - perhaps room to add 2-3. This would be absolutely perfect for my needs - I would have base prices from SCBC and could update with what I considered to be market changes. |

coupled with the higher prices I have to pay for them--makes me very interested in what someone I know will charge me for 3. Oh the A.L was also printed in '06, not in '04. |
