Consigning Cards to an Ebay Seller

If you're own feedback is ok, is there any advantage to consigning cards to an ebay seller? Do certain sellers like Scott Gaynor or Barry Sloate (hi Barry) get more money for the cards because of their reputation? Or do they just save you the trouble of listing the items yourself?

All opinions would be appreciated. I know Scott and Barry are honest, so they shouldn't feel embarrassed about chiming in on this thread.

Saves time. Often, I don't like the hassle of selling items one by one on my own. I have an excellent eBay feedback, but get tired of selling.

It also depends on the reputation of the seller and what they ordinarily sell versus what you ordinarily sell. For example, I might sell 1930s Vogue photos on my own, but if I had a Jerry Rice game used jersey or a Babe Ruth autographed baseball I might consign it through Scott as he is a well known and reputable seller for those types of items. Obviously if you have no seller reputation or have never sold on eBay, using Barry's or Scott's reputation and expertise can aid. Pre-War collector's are going to trust Barry's opinion about authenticity and condition of an 1875 scorebook over someone they've never heard of good or bad. And autograph collectors are going to prefer to buy an movie star autograph collection from Scott than someone than someone with a feedback of three.

Much more money if you consign to a regular ebay seller!

The people who consign to me for ebay do so because they don't have the time or wherewithal to do it themselves. If you have the time you should do fine. I will say, however, that regular sellers do develop a following and bidders will mark them on their favorites list.

I myself take consignments on eBay, but sometimes I use other services that maybe doing it full time or more than me for my own items when I do not have the time. I think both above sellers are great options.

If you look at my website, I could always be doing more, but it's really the time - so it really is good to spread things around and help other good sellers as well

I would say that you have a good chance of getting more simply because (at least in my case) there is a base of ebay bidders that has been built over 10 years. They check my ebay page each week, they know the item is authentic and that we stand behind it. That is usually good for a 10-20% boost in price, which covers the cost of the consignment fee and you don't have to deal with listing, shipping and the problem customers that come out of the woodwork from time to time.
