Default Finally...nothing to do with the Bosox

Posted By: Mike Pugeda

It didn't take me quite 86 years, but after approx. 7 years I am happy to say I have finally completed the Domino Disc set (PX7). I am also about 40-45% through completing the second pose (variations) to completing a "master set". These are similar to P2's but I just think the colors are so much more appealing than the sepia color of the pins. I also think they are considerably more difficult to find, especially in top shape.

What are some of the sets you have recently completed which you weren't sure you ever would?

Pretty puny sets, huh? 19th century cards are expensive!

I wonder if I'll ever finish the T202 set--I only need about 27 of 132...

Congrats Mike. Im almost finished with the t206 set that i started collecting 13 years ago.I didnt buy many the first 8 years.Just some here and there at card shows but for the last 5 years ive been full into it trying to get every player from Magie on down in price, and every back from Drum on down and im just 16 away from finishing.Mostly need southern leaguers with a few hall of famers in there to make it harder[expense-wise]

After that i plan on mostly getting old judges so this will probably be the last vintage set i finish for awhile

Thanks John.

your effort to collect t206's sounds a lot like my story. best of luck to you and hope that when you reach your goal you feel the same fulfillment I have. good luck also on the old judges, i will be looking to complete my e93 set next.

in great condition. I bought my original Kelly for about $2000--I'd say it was ex--but that was 7-8years ago. I think I'd ask Terry Knouse (from whom I bought it) to keep a lookout for me for a lower grade Kelly, and give him a top price. He certainly handles more 19th century stuff than anyone. Another thing about T. Knouse--he'll let you buy stuff on time, if it's too expensive to pay for all at once--which is certainly the case with me most of the time!

Does Terry have a website? Or a way I can contact him? I'm looking for a 19th century card and he sounds like a guy who could help me find it and may a payment plan to afford it. Thanks.

570-379-2566; (orders only): 1-800-308-3407.

I'm not sure as a new customner you can expect this, BUT: since he doesn't use a computer (his wife will give him a message in a pinch, but she'd rather not), he can't send out scans--right? Since he can't send out scans (this is the part you maybe shouldn't count on), he sends the card on spec. I mean, a card worth a lot of dough. Then, since he accepts time payments, YOU get to keep the card while you pay for it--is that neat!

He's PRETTY good about answering messages, but he's home fairly often (since he and his wife run a campground, and they live nearby), so it is best to keep trying to catch him at home and talk to him. I guess this time of year especially!

Mike- congratulations on your herculean task. I too have lately tried to collect and complete both sets and although I am getting close on the P2 Sweet Cap pins, the PX7 Domino Discs has proven to be a real challenge and I have a long way to go.
If you want a real challenge, though, try the T207 set now that everyone and their brother has got interested in them

It is always satisfying when a set finally finishes. Sometimes a bit sad too.

I just finished my 1948 Leaf Boxing set, 1965 James Bond and upgrades to 1976 Star Trek. Still one GDMF card from my 1921 Exhibit Boxing set, though...

Tbob,

if you let me know which domino discs you need, i could try to help you locate some. i live on the east coast and make it to all the ft. wash shows plus some smaller shows here and there.

Mike

I recently completed the N526 set. Sowders was the last one I needed. It took a couple of years of waiting for the Sowders, and six years all told to put together the set. Why did I even want to collect this set? Well, they are not too expensive, and there are only 15 of them, so it is possible.

I am currently down to 2 T202s, which I started 4 years ago. Down to 22 commons minus the big 5 on the T206 set, I had about 80 from the 1980's but got the rest in the last 4 years. I have all the backs from UZIT down. Hopefully I will have one of the 2 sets down by the end of the year.

And finish my T206 set before John Dreker.

It is great fun and will find another set to ry to put together when these are done.

Lee
