Default Where do 1966 Topps high numbers start?

I am starting to put together a 1966 Topps set. Essentially all the online resources I have read indicate that the high number 7th series start with card #523. However, the 7th series checklist indicates the 7th series starts with card #507. What gives? Does anyone know of an explanation for this discrepancy?

Topps checklists are often wrong in this time period. It was evidently some sort of marketing ploy, giving kids a 'start' on the next series by having the checklists not actually correspond to what was in the packs. A 'you've already got some, you should keep going!' kind of a deal.

We know the highs do not start at 507; we've recreated the sheet and the 6th series stock variant clearly tells us which cards are in the 6th series beyond reasonable doubt.

This thread has more correct info on the highs than, I think, any other source online or published: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=258947

Good luck on your set. The 66’s are my favorite design of the 60’s. I’m like 9 or 10 highs from finishing still, they are not an easy series on the wallet relative to other Topps issues.

The 1966 high series consists of 77 cards. These cards are 517 (checklist) and 523 thru 598. The version of the checklist printed in series 7 had W. Sox on it rather than White Sox for card 529.
