Hey guys-
This card is cut short and I wanted to know if you think it is trimmed on the top. I am not much of a card-doctor detective, and am interested in your opinions. The card measures just under 88 MM top to bottom, my other 58Ts are 88.5. I have this card up for sale right now on the BST auction site so bidders may be interested in your thoughts too. The pics on this thread are 600 DPI, better resolution than the ones over at BST. Last edited by Gorditadogg; 01-24-2023 at 12:11 PM. |

Take a loupe and check the outsides edges of the card; look at the part you wouldn't be able to see if it was slabbed. If the card has been trimmed recently, you'll see uneven oxidation. The recently exposed portion will be "cleaner" than the other edges.
I realize this is just one of several methods to check for trimmed cards. However, the fraudsters rarely "age" this portion of the card after their trim job.

Long story short (no pun intended) - you can't detect trimming on '58 Topps with a ruler alone.

Card doesn't look trimmed to me. And with all the surface issues (fisheye PDs), not sure why someone would trim this card. Card has more issues that can't be solved by a cleaner edge.

Thanks, guys, for your comments. If the card is not trimmed, then Octavio is going to get a really good deal.

I don't believe it is trimmed. It does look short, but that doesn't mean it's trimmed, despite what 99% of the members over at blowhard will tell you. There was a ton of variance in card sizing straight from the packs in 58. In my stacks of commons, there is about 3/16" worth of variance from cards that are definitely not trimmed.
