Default Trolls Are Coming Out Of The Woodwork - gabrielleoddin

Hey Yawl
There seems to be a few trolls more than normal, lately, so this is a courtesy heads up to be very careful. I have gotten 2-3 emails about this troll Id below...It has been banned.
Be careful on the forum..,.., I called the number it is giving members and it's one of those Google Voice pieces of crap.

Because it's the start of a new year so things have ramped up?

Our home phone, at least once a day it seems, we get a phone call about duct cleaning, Amazon/eBay purchases and credit card issues, plus a few others. Very annoying to say the least.

LOL, me too. I like back many many years ago when you could just set your phone down and then they couldn't call anyone else till you hung yours up. Now I talk to them and say how interested I am. Then I tell them I need to get my wife to finish the transaction with them. Then just set my phone down and see how long they will stay on the line.

This will make people look at you really weird.

The car insurance scammers call my area all the time. I was at a one of my financial advisors waiting room and the guy behind the counter had his personal cell phone ring. He answered it and hung up.

Guy: It was one of those car insurance scammers. Last time they called I waited all the way through their message and opted out of future calls. That lasted a week before they just started calling back. What a bunch of idiots.

Me: I know, some of them are really stupid. The last time one called me I had to give him my CC number 3 times before they got it correct.

The look that guy gave me was priceless.

We get calls all day long. I have stopped picking up the phone.

There is a stand up who has a few CDs with nothing but recordings where he harasses telemarketers...here is a quick one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDvZmIHIu8A

I would give anything to have the telephone system we had at JIATF (Joint Inter-Agency Task Force) East down at Key West when I was in the Navy. There was no hiding who you were, or where you were calling from. We had a Chief Petty Officer who was going through a nasty divorce. His "wife" was really raking him over the coals. Bill collectors started calling. At work. One day one called, and Chief Wilson had had enough. He told the guy, "I know who you are, and you are calling from 1123 South Street, in Barton, Maryland. If you EVER call me again, I will track you down and find you and f#$%@ing kill you, no matter where you try to hide. Do you understand what I am telling you?" Admiral Grannuzo, who looked more like a mafia guy than a Navy Admiral, said, "You tell 'em, Chief!" No bill collectors ever called again.

I had a lot fun with them until the fun was returned by one of them calling me back one morning at 6:30.
Now I just hang up.

Luckily, for the most part, the phone ring is a more intermittent ring than what a normal phone call usually is so a lot of the time, I do the same.
Here's another funny prank call pay back by Tom Mabe.

That Tom Mabe thing made my eyes water I was laughing so hard.

When my daughter was little and we still had a landline I used to tell the telemarketer to hold and say to her "hold music" and put her on the phone. She would loudly sing an out of key weird tune ("la da da da. La da da da da da") until the telemarketer hung up.

At my office I get stock boiler rooms all the time. The best way to get rid of them is to ask them if they've accepted Jesus Christ as their lord and savior and offer to give them my testimony. They can't get off quickly enough and I never hear from that salesman again. Another thing I like to do is put them on hold and never come back. Some of the truly stupid ones will stay on the line patiently for several minutes. Sometimes I pull the "Dave's not here" bit from Cheech and Chong.
CHONG: Who is it?
CHEECH: It's ______ [salesman name; say "Dave" for the example]
CHONG: Who?
CHEECH: Dave
CHONG: Dave?
CHEECH: Yeah, Dave
CHONG: Dave's not here
CHEECH: What the hell? No, man, I am Dave, man.
CHONG: Who is it?
CHEECH: It's Dave!
CHONG: Who?
CHEECH: Dave! D-A-V-E!
CHONG: Dave?
CHEECH: Yeah, Dave!
CHONG: Dave?
CHEECH: Right, man. Dave. Now will you open up the door?
CHONG: Dave's not here

Important note: I sell vinyl records on eBay. There's a stereo in the room where my desk is located. I use it to playtest each record before listing it. Obviously, I won't leave it playing when I answer the phone. However, the stereo is typically powered on, with a record on the platter.

Occasionally, I'll inadvertently answer one of those scam phone calls. Once I realize the caller is someone with whom I don't want to talk, here's what I do:
  • Ask them to hold on
  • Walk over to the stereo
  • Push "start" on the record player
  • Put the phone up to the speaker

Depending on which record is on the turntable, it can be hilarious.

When the phone rings here, I quickly pick up a banana, put it to my ear and say, "Hello???" It gets a good laugh about 17% of the time.

I still have a landline and was going nuts with BS calls.
I bought V-Tech 4 phone system the screens robocalls.
If the system does not recognize the number from its directory (you can download your contacts from your phone) the system requests caller to press a number and announce name. So a real unknown person can get thru but not robocalls. Now the phone rarely rings - heaven! Lots of flexibility in set up of screening rules.

I got a call a few weeks ago from a scammer demanding to talk to my wife. I told her my wife passed away over 2 years ago. She kept at it. She didn't believe me. I was not nice at all. Now if I don't recognize the phone number. I just don't answer the phone.

Another land-line dinosaur here. I'd be thrilled if I received an average of only 2 marketing calls a day. My wife and I no longer answer our land line, unless we know for sure who the caller is. We prefer to just delete the marketing messages every 2 or 3 days.

If I receive a call from someone that is not in my contact list the call goes directly to voice mail, no ringing or vibrating. I notice the voice mail whenever I happen to check. Works great, no telemarketers or scams.

I've heard that is a huge one in the U.S., or at least in certain states. Thankfully, we don't get those up here, or at least not to my knowledge?

This is also a funny video of a guy jerking around a duct cleaner. We get these often, and I likely just received one about a 1/2 hour ago but I hung before the guy could speak more than 2 words. There is always a delay once you answer and say hello so that is also a dead giveaway.

Don't have a cell phone and don't want one. As Brett Hull said once "I'd rather be old and smart than young and dumb."
By the way the name I give the scammers is Harry Sax. Listening to the guy in India say it is worth the price of admission.

I always jerk them around as much as I can as long as I am doing nothing. Sometimes I just answer the phone saying....Speak..You have 7 seconds. Then hang up on them mid sentance.

I wonder if the telemarketers have a forum on which they share stories about people who have creatively hung up.

A friends wife works at a call center for a credit card company. They are the people that call when you missed a payment or three. She has some hilarious stories.

I gladly have a land line. If there is a power failure forget your voip/digital phone and no recharging you cell phone unless you have a portable charger that is charged.

I do not have caller ID as I don't want to pay the $6 a month for the fee. It is also for local calls only. The only people that will call it are my mother, on rare occasions a friend from Switzerland (3¢ a minute international plan) and telemarketers. Working from home full time I would hear the calls, but rarely get them.

I like to have fun with them. I get a number of calls from a 'Police Benevolent Charity'. I would never give anything over the phone and leo's make more than me in this area. I always ask if they are a cop. Usually they say they are fundraisers. I say they make enough and hang up. One caller actually tried to say he was. I asked for his FOP (Fraternal Order of the Police) membership number. He was confused. MMM Bye Bye.

I got a call from probably Mumbai or other city in the subcontinent.

Them - Your Microsoft license has expired
Me - It did. Oh my God! Do I need to come in to have my picture taken?
Them - No, your Microsoft license.
Me - I can schedule an appointment next week to come in.
Them - You don't need to do that.
Me - Okay, but first I have to kill a cow and have sex with your sister.

I don't understand Hindi, but I doubt he was saying 'Have a nice day'.

Last week

This is very important. Please press 1 so we can talk to you.

Them - Hello U.S. Marshalls (with the din of a call center in the background)
Me - No you're not...
Them - Yes it is.
Me - If I find you I am going to sexually assault you and cut off your head you women's nether regions.

Stunned silence. I am still waiting for SWAT to break down my door. Nothing but crickets though. Violent but effective.

37 year Telecom Tech and have seen the evolution from everyone has a landline to virtually no one due to cell phones.

Remember when you had to get up and answer the phone with NO caller ID..

When I was stationed in Spain and lived off base (USAF) 1984-1988 I had no landline, no cable and no internet.. I read alot and listened to Armed Forces Radio..
