Default December Pick-ups Part 2

The old one seems to have been de-railed with no signs of release, so here's another.

Picked up this cool RPPC. The first pitch ever thrown out at Swayne Field. Toledo Mud Hens pitcher and 3 x 20 game winner Frank Owen throws out the first pitch to a Columbus batter.

I'm fairly confident somewhere in the infield is HOFer Joe McCarthy. He played 128 games for the Mud Hens in 1909.

I do pretty well spotting deals compared to others on the card side, but you photo hounds have few equals.

Default Eagles pickups

My dad and I attended a very cool estate auction this past weekend, that was Eagles related. The auction was for the estate of former Eagles player Ken Farragut, who played for the Eagles form 1951 to 1954. Ken and his wife were moving into a retirement home, and the contents of his amazing home were put up for sale. I picked up several Eagles items, some from his playing days, some circa 1980's Eagles items that Ken collected. My favorite two pickups were: An approximately 3 feet by 3 feet beautiful rug/wall hanging that celebrated Ken's All Pro status in 1954, and a Pewter Football shaped Eagles mug. I have only seen one of these mugs before in my 10 or so years searching ebay. I am not sure of their rarity, but Ken had a set of 5, all different teams.

Cool items. The pewter mug resembles the style of the early painted Yale & Harvard mugs.. Is yours dated or signed ? I've never seen one like yours

Default Eagles

Thanks Matt and Mike,
There are no markings on the mug Matt. I agree, it does have a resemblance to the early Ivy League football shaped steins. I emailed Lou at Inside the Park this morning to see if he's handled these before and if he has info on them.

Default December

What a year it has been. Below is my newest and last purchase of 2012. It is a photo I purchased to frame up with my Gehrig letter. I just need to figure out what style frame to use(my first "major" frame job). Happy New year to you all.

Ben

JUST OVER A MONTH SINCE HE MARRIED HIS BELOVED ELEONOR, LOU WRITES TO Daily Mirror sportswriter Ken Smith.

The letter, upon Gehrig's personal stationery, reads:

"Dear Friend, Just received your letter regarding Danbury - due to an extended trip west - with my new bride - I'm really sorry, Ken, but maybe I will be in the position in the near future to show and prove I am sincere when I say I will fulfill this obligation some time - Surely you must have known I was far out west and just returned yesterday. Several phone calls were unsuccessful, so I'm writing you - My sincere thanks for your kind thoughts, with kindest personal regards - Cordially Lou -"

Since your name is "Ben," I think it ridiculous that you'd hang this on your wall. The personalization has nothing to do with you, and it's far too nice to be wasted like this. You really should sell it -- and if you can't find a buyer, even give it away -- to someone actually named "Ken."
