After ten zillion delays The second book of SABR's Deadball Stars, this one on the American league arrived in the mail today. What a treat. For anyone interested in some of the lesser known players of the deadball era, this is a must. I am sure that it is available through Amazon

Yep, I got mine yesterday and have already read the bio of about 10 of the players. I would love to see this type of book expanded into perhaps a "nineteenth century stars of the major leagues" then they could go even further back and do a "Pioneering stars of the National Pastime"....once they finish that they could hit the 1920-40 era.

Dan, I think SABR has done 2 volumes of 19c stars. I got my DBSoAL a few days ago too. This what makes a SABR membership worthwhile.

Has anyone on the forum ever thought to put together a list of "required reading" for vintage card owners? This would be a really usefull list for those of us still getting into or expanding our knowledge in this area. Should I start a new thread?

A hardcover set of Deadball Stars is available from SABR at $60 for members. I'd love to see updated versions, in hardcover, of 19th Century Stars and Baseball's First Stars.

You should get both 19th century books because there is no overlap of players and every one of them includes a photograph, a lengthy biography, and full stats dating back to the 1860's. They are indispensable.
