Default 1977-78 Topps Revisited

So I'm finally done putting together a complete set of 1977 gray backs (well, I will be when the final 6 cards get here from COMC - they were finally shipped today after I ordered them in March; I suppose I should be grateful).

Anyway, after working on this for while now, it is clear to me that the gray backs have to be rarer by a factor of 10 at least than the white backs.

If this was, say, the 1977 Topps baseball set with this feature, the gray backs would probably be selling for 10 bucks a pop.

Would anyone disagree that there is at least this large a gap in availability or care to comment on why the values don't reflect such scarcity?

I had the frustrating experience of ordering a bunch recently from Sportlots which were explicitly adverstised as gray backs, but which I had to return because they were white...very, very frustrating.
