Default Was this a good deal? A question for the faithful.

Recently at a card show I offered a pre war dealer the following;
4- 1914 CJ's all commons( Doyle/Milan/Scott/Rucker) graded 3,2,1 and 1 and all nice looking, for a T205 sgc graded 3 Cy Young..Was this a bad offer? Given the on-line and show prices for the 14's I did'nt think this a bad offer..What does a VG 3 Gold border Young go for?

Well I would say a T205 Young in a 3 would go for $650-700. I guess it depends on the guy your dealing with...I wouldn't want the four low grade common CJ's for it....were the 1's all beat up?

No. All the cards look real nice..But if the Young goes for that kind of money 650-700! I was insulting him!!

Well he didnt laugh..He was asking 1,000, by the way! I see so many Youngs from that set! Even in small shows..I guess I'm losing touch with pre war reality..

A dealer at a show asking for 30-35% above market value seems about right.

I have lost out on some T206 and T200 auctions recently by bidding anywhere between 10-25% higher than the most recent sale figures (which in some cases were only a week old themselves!) that I was aware of...only to get blown out of the water by another 20%...very depressing

I am re-thinking my graded-only strategy, and starting to size up raw singles and groups for my T206 Cubs effort...

but yes, ditto on the show pricing observations...unless you go at the end and find a dealer who had a slow showing...
