Default I just have to say....

This is the most knowledgeable and civil forum I've ever been on. I've gone through many posts just to catch up because I am new here, but in general it looks like everyone watches out for one another here.

When I started collecting sportscards back in 1992, all I had was my friend to guide me and no one else because no one else collected. All he cared about was the hottest rookie cards out there. So that was what I tried to base my collection on. Yeah, it was a big mistake, but I had to learn somehow. Then I read up on the articles of all the price guides I could get my grubby hands on. The insert craze came along. Yup, I was swept up in that wave, too. I was getting fed up trying to keep up with the RCs and hot #'d inserts, but it just was too much for me. In 1999, I just stopped - COLD. Something wasn't right because I had the feeling like I was throwing away my money. My collection was out of sorts. A little more than 5 years later, I looked at my collection for the first time in a long time. It's all crap. Except for a few items that I personally like - like my 1962 Maris and my signed full unused 1977 WS game 6 ticket. I started anew on eBay and just got a few early 70's Nolan Ryan cards just to whet my appetite for collecting. The only other part of my collection I will keep are all the Michael Jordan cards/inserts because he is a once-in-a-lifetime player. Besides, it's colorful. As for the crap, I'm going to bag 'em up with one or two star cards of at least $5 and give them away to the pediatric ward at the hospital I work for. At least the kids there can enjoy them since I don't have any of my own.

When I read the posts on this forum, it taught me what is REAL. And it gave me this thought:

"For the life of me, I cannot understand how a piece of cardboard made today can be worth several hundreds of dollars right out of the pack when it has not even suffered/survived through the attrition of at least two major world wars, a depression, millions of bicycle spokes, and incessant flipping - and to be done without the help of plastic and lucite?"

This forum has given me focus. I am now rebuilding a collection that would mean something. Not to be the latest craze, but to be my own little personal museum with a collection of items that have truly stood the test of time.

Okay, all that was corny, but I had to say it.

Anybody know where I can get my hands on a T-206 Demmit (St. Louis) or an O'Hara (St.Louis)? Any condition is acceptable, except if it's missing pieces or has writing on the surface.

Thanx for listening!
