Default pre-war

Since I don't really collect post war and have acquired my favorite piece in my collection from the estate of Nixey Callahan, I have collected a few of his cards....

Default A nice diverse selection of players...

I had a tough time choosing Gehrig over Ruth and Clemente over Mantle. but the deciding factors for me was there is far fewer collectible items of Lou then Babe. And the Mantle/Clemente ratio is night & day.

I do enjoy the challenge...who doesn't.

Here's an example. Just how many game action "batting" photos do you see of Gehrig and Clemente compared to Ruth and Mantle.

A pair of vintage original TYPE I photos:

For me pre-war would have to be Cobb.

Post war - He kind of covers both eras, but I would have to say Bob Feller. I have worked and sat with Mr. Feller on two occasions. He is a very interesting person.

This is tough....
Pre-war would probably be Sherry Magee (with Jack Clements a close second).
Post-war is Steve Carlton (with Ashburn/Waitkus a close second/third).

I really don't go out of my way to collect players, but if I were to pick one pre war player it would be Wahoo Sam Crawford.

Postwar I guess is Pete O'Brien...I have hundreds of his different issues..there are still some that are just impossible, which you wouldn't think since he played in the 80s and 90s. I also collect his game used bats and have three of them.

Pre war: Lou Gehrig.
I don't do any post war players specifically, but focus more on interesting items that are autographed.

Prewar- Chief Bender and Lou Gehrig but right now cannot afford any Gehrigs and even sold one of the 34 Gehrigs to get more Benders.

Post War- Aaron, Clemente, Mays, and Rose. Have sold many Rose cards to get more Benders and will probably start getting rid of some of the Mays and Clemente but think will keep the Aaron cards intact. Not easy choices to make..............

I don't have a pre-war favorite, but I keep buying extra cards of Babe Adams, Wilbur Cooper, Larry Doyle, and Cheif Meyers.

post-war: the great Roberto.

Default Sorry if you've seen these already...

as I bought both of them in the last month or so. However, I just got the Gehrig in hand. So here I am staring at them all night long. I think it's true love this time at last!

I am a sick man.

As I stated when I started this thread, my favorite pre-war and post-war players. NOTE: very tough "Bob" Clemente signature.

gehrigjimmyAUTO.jpgbobclementeauto2.jpg

gehrigjimmycloseup.jpgbobclementeauto1.jpg

P.S. The Clemente is huge.

Well, I can't say that my contribution will even mean anything, since I don't collect...

However, if I had the means, I would probably stick in the pre-war era, and my boys would be Carl Hubbell and Lou Gehrig.

Leon,
What is the Nixey Callahan piece in your collection that is your favorite & could you share a picture? BTW- Do you have anything that he signed "Nixey" instead of JJ Callahan? Thanks!

After almost ignoring him entirely, I have had a complete turnaround in the last 2 years and have a great appreciation for Mr. Bob Feller.

Mickey Mantle and Tony Gwynn for post war
