Default The Super Bowl Ring With The Wrong Score

John R. from Pittsburgh sent me an email informing me that 32 years after the Pittsburgh Steelers Superbowl IX rings were produced, it was discovered that the ring contained an incorrect score.

How was it discovered? Would you believe a Super Bowl IX ring was sold on ebay in 2008 and someone who saw the listing finally noticed, and as a result, the story reached the media that year.

Thanks John!

An interesting story. I'm not sure what is more amazing: that a major manufacturer would make such an error and not catch it before delivering the rings, or the fact that not one recipient spotted the error or cared about it.

Considering the Steelers defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the Super Bowl and Jostens is located in Minneapolis, perhaps a disgruntled Jostens employee who was also a Vikings diehard sabotaged the design.

This situation offers a contrast to the status championship rings have achieved in contemporary times. I can't imagine this happening today.

Thumbs up Nixon and Space Aliens

Maybe the Nixon administration sabotaged the design with the help of space aliens.
