mis-identified Heritage Auction photo
Heritage Lot 81352 - "Below is a great full-body shot of Tris Speaker in the uniform of the 1917 Cleveland Indians"
That refers to the guy below left. He certainly is not Tris Speaker. Real Speaker for comparison is below center and right. |

I'll post the correct ID after the auction closes.

It's Gary Busey.

The Heritage photo below left is clearly the same guy as in the photo below right playing 1st base for Cleveland in 1916:

That's not the only image they messed up on but I can't reveal the one I spotted until the auction closes...

It looks like Chick has a nice wad of tobacco in his cheek in the heritage photo.

This is exactly why they should bring back flogging.

Funny how they seem to always misidentify photographs towards the more expensive player. It rarely goes the other way.

Given the uniform and the time period, it was perhaps the most expensive player.

Also included in the collage was the unidentified postcard below. It is the 1911 Cardinals. The photo was taken shortly after the 7-11-1911 train wreck. They are:
standing: ? – Wally Smith – Ivy Wingo –– Jack Bliss – Grover Lowdermilk – Bob Harmon - Ed Konetchy – Rebel Oakes front: Arnold Hauser – Rube Ellis – Lee Magee – Steve Evans – Roger Bresnahan |

Slim Salee, Grover Lowdermilk, Ivy Wingo below
(I hope I'm enhancing the experience for whoever won this. Probably he doesn't know about net54 and thinks he has a photo of Tris Speaker) Last edited by bmarlowe1; 10-26-2012 at 10:14 PM. |
