Default W555 Cy Young

Posted By: Scott

Does anyone else on the board have examples in their collection or can point me to any scans on other sites of W555 Cy Young cards?

I have one in my possesion and would like to see if I could find the other variations for comparison.

Just to throw my two cents in on dating this set (I know this is an old discussion) I would say that the previous posters on this board regarding this topic did a great job of moving the set up to the 1909-1910 timeframe.

The card I have lists Young with Cleveland but shows him still in a Boston Americans uniform (nice tie-in to the E-97 set). To me, that would make at least my card a 1909 issue since Cy played for Boston in 1908 and moved to Cleveland in 1909.

If my card were issued in 1910, I would think they would have enough images of Cy in a Cleveland uniform by then to work with.

I would greatly appreciate anyone that could point me to any W555 Young scans they are aware of.

Thanks!

Scott

Scott,

You can't really go by the Young pose that is used in the E97 set because it isn't him. That image is Irv Young, not Cy.

The variation in the W555 set is the image used for the E93 set. I have one and I can send you a scan.

Pete,

Thanks for the information... I had not heard that the pose was not Cy Young before in that issue. Guess I should have paid more attention to the likeness and less to the uniform.

Yes, I'd like to see your scan. Email it to me when you get a chance.

Thanks,

Scott

Julie, cool card! Is it for sale? It is a candy box card correct? Neat!!! There are 3 variations of the W555 Cy young. 2 different poses and a same pose with and w/o an emblem. Dan.

"W Unc. candy, 1910." It's only the center of the card, cut from a candy box. The whole card has a diamond around it, and bases at the corners (see Standard Catalogue, 2003 or 04).
There's a "Toy Town Post Office" stamp on the back. Contact fisherboy7@hotmail.com if you're interested in trading or buying--but he likes it a lot too.
