Default Side collection - inappropriate, awkward or infamous cards… your help?

I’ve decided to dedicate one small area of my “card cave” to display a small cache of our hobbies more infamous cards

The Ripken F-Face, Bevaqua’s ‘76 bubble, and unfortunate names are we’re I’m starting. Would love to include some great vintage cards to this display.

What else would you suggest?? Help create my next shopping list!

There's a 1988 minor league card with a guy taking a baseball up the groin. Staged, but still funny.

Depictions of African American ballplayers in the 1963 Gad set are pretty stereotypical racist imagery:

The Randy Johnson Marlboro Ad card might fit this theme.

You can do a whole slew of 'Players F*cking with the Photogs' offerings (not counting the 1968 Topps proofs of Gibson and Seaver).

For instance, RHP Lew Burdette pretending he's a lefty (and we won't mention that Lewis' name is spelled wrong)...

s-l1600.jpg

Or the bat boy stand-in for Aurelio Rodriguez...

s-l1600-2.jpg

etc., etc...

Blame it on The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubble Gum Book. There are thousands of unusual cards. We've all seen them. For years, whenever I came across an out of the ordinary card, I would put it in an album I labeled "interesting cards." At first it was just great names - Moose Skowron, Choo Choo Coleman, Oil Can Boyd, Fair Hooker. Then I just started including anything unusual - Oscar Gamble's awesome hair, the '52 Topps Gus Zernial and Clyde King cards, '64T Ray Sadecki (hilarious to us 9-year old's back in the day), dual sport guys (Conley, Debusschere, Jordan - Brian or Michael, Deion, Bo), Herb Washington as a pinch runner only, memorable physical specimens (Walt No Neck Williams, Don Mossi), at least six players holding their own card on a card, Eddie Waitkus (the Natural), Jim Morris (the Rookie), lots of cards with bats breaking, players clowning, props. I filled an entire binder and also two 800-count boxes. It's amazing how many cards, especially once the "stop and pose" practice ended, are "interesting." It sure beats the hatless head shots that seemed to dominate the 60's sets. I also have a binder dedicated to great action shots - power hitters connecting, leaping catches, diving catches, flying double play turns, home plate collisions. I'm a set collector at heart but these diversions from my primary collecting focus give me (and my grandkids) a lot of enjoyment.

At the risk of being offensive and real dark (let me apologize in advance) add a Ed Bouchee card, a MARK JACKSON 1990-91 Hoops Basketball Card #205 , or a 1940 Play Ball Willard Hershberger #77.

Yeah, I was going to mention the one with the murderers on it, but you beat me to it.
There is another interesting card like that, that has future NHL player Patrick Kane cheering on a play 11 years before he joined the league:

This one is popular with some of the modern guys as an awkward, weird card.

A couple modern fleer card for this thread. Both are real and neither are scarce. I did not have the 1984 Glenn Hubbard, but I opened a LOT of 1988 Fleer back in 1988...so I pulled multiple Tim Flannery cards. I remember thinking the surf board was super cool.

And some vintage, these two certainly fit into "awkward". I don't like inappropriate cards much but I like the bizarre photo choices and improper uses of photoshop.

1964 Topps #389 Jim Umbricht - the back of which mentions the unfortunate passing of Mr. Umbricht fits the category I suppose.

Everytime I look through my 71 and 77 Topps sets I send a phone pic of these two cards to my wife as a joke, she just loves it when my 12 year old self comes out...haha

The 2 that jump to mind are the N172 Radbourn where he continues his habit of flipping people off well into the future, and the 1993 UD Mike Perez.

I think it is either that the guy's last name is "Brabender", sort of a juvenile joke on him bending a girl's bra, or it could be that if you look where his glove hand ends up, it appears that he's going to grab his own genitals. Just guessing on both counts though.
