Ok, we'll see how long this takes, I give it about 5 minutes before someone chimes in with the right answer.

What happened 14 years ago today in baseball?

Kevin Slowey of the Twins won to go 8-8 on the season...on 8/8/8.

Desiderata

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Strive to be happy.

Total guess, but was that Mark Buehrle's perfect game?

While trying to find out the answer on the internet, I came across another historical baseball event 34 years ago today. Answer Fred's question first, then try mine on for size.

88...so I am guessing Hershiser broke the scoreless inning streak?

Ugh

Cubs first night game and Carlos Lee gets 100 RBI of season....1000 RBI of career

Damn Steve that was fast! I love numbers like that.

Steve - does your answer have something to do with da Cubs?

I was at a game in Wrigley almost 50 years ago that's a cool trivia question -

Should be easy to figure out given the venue - what pair of brothers combined for a shutout against the Dodgers? I believe it's the only time brothers combined for a shut out in MLB history.

It was those big-boned Reuschel brothers, Rick and Paul.

My daughter was born 14 years ago today. Trust me, I was not thinking about baseball at the time.

My guess was two years and two months off. I looked it up to spell Armando Galarrega's name correctly.

Al, I must have missed that one. Shame on me because I'm a Peavy fan. Yeah, it was those big beefy Reushel brothers that tossed that shutout. I really didn't think of the significance of that game at the time. I was just happy to be at Wrigley.
