Default Oliver Perez

Oliver Perez got a save for the Indians last night. He made his MLB debut for the Padres in June 2002. What's more remarkable than his longevity has been the fact that he's been entirely mediocre for much of the time. Strange career.

He was great for the Pirates in 2004 as a 22 year old lefty. We thought we struck gold in the Brian Giles trade getting Perez and Jason Bay. I'm pretty sure he led the league in K's/9 innings. We were pretty bad offensively (what else is new) so his record wasn't great but all his other numbers were pretty special. Then, of course, he got hurt the next season. He did something stupid like kicking through a wall or something like that and broke his foot and was never the same. But yes, he has been a mediocre, but pretty reliable, reliever since. There's probably a lot of guys who take his "strange" 18 year pro career though.

He had a good 2007 for the Mets, they re-signed him to a stupid contract and he sucked and was released.

Just goes to show that if you're a left handed pitcher with a pulse, someone will want you in the Majors. I think his career pretty much sucked and glad the Pads got rid of him early.

Default Estimated Career Earnings

Est. Earnings (18 seasons) $65,772,535

That's the price of mediocrity these days.

He's been mediocre for eight different teams. Not sure how my Orioles didn't get in on this.

I'm going to be 65 years-old in January, but I'm a lefty and my pulse is strong.

I have not thrown a baseball in about 9 years.

In my prime, I was just above mediocre...with flashes of fair to good.

I hope that there are some team reps trolling this thread.

Any takers?

i believe right after the trade was announced he asked if he could still pitch for the old team and they told him no, you have to go to the new team before you can pitch again in a game

most middle relievers are mediocre and also pitch the most years versus mediocre hitters
