Where to go for restoration?

I just bought a massive 19th century baseball cabinet. It has some damage and I would like to have it restored. Any ideas? Cost?

Great photo and an even better price. I would suggest a place in Chicago, though I can't remember the name right now. At least one board member has gotten a card restored by them and it turned out very well. If Andy Baron doesn't post here email him about it, he knows the place.

Here is the ebay id...8810303273...I put the link up but then I realized it had all my paypal info...maybe someone else could help me out. If it wasn't severely damaged I wouldn't think about having it restored but it is. Still a pretty cool piece imo. I'm from Detroit so it has some "meaning". I'm in Arizona now but will be going to the National. Maybe someone there would be able to help.

The name of the best restoration company around is Graphic Conservation in Chicago. Most of the items that they do restoration work on are not sports related. They do amazing work, but it isn't cheap. The cost may be several hundred dollars or more.

Thanks Andy. That's what I'm looking for. I know it's kind of taboo to "restore" things but I don't ever plan on selling it and I think it deserves to be brought back to near original condition.

I believe this is the company we used to do a restoration of a very rare (only one known) 1895 Brewery Lithograph. They do a wonderful job. Just make sure you document the restoration on the piece. They aren't cheap, by any means. I want to say it was $2000 to restore the lithograph (remove water stains and lighten a crease and crack), but it was well worth it.

There's a big difference between conservation of a piece for history and just making it look better to improve it's monetary worth for resale. It's a fine line, but as long as you're doing it as a means of conservation, I see nothing wrong with doing a repair on a piece that is worthy of doing so.

I've got to say, no qualms about restoring this piece: those cracks worry me and since it's probably one of a kind, a restoration project is necessary to keep that piece from getting any worse. Can't wait to see the finished product!
