E126 ... Who Is Card 5????
Posted By: James Walker, Jr.
Does anyone know who is actually card 5 of the E126 set??? However, the only the E. Cox that played for the White Sox is Ernest Thompson Cox (E. T.). Now for the kicker, Ernest pitched in only one game for the White Sox in 1922 which was also his whole MLB career. E.T. Cox career link - http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/coxer01.shtml Now, there were two other Cox's that played for the White Sox around 1927. There was a Les Cox who played only in 1926 (Pitched in 2 Games) and George Cox who played only in 1928 (Pitched in 26 Games). Les Cox career link - http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/coxle01.shtml George Cox career link - http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/coxge01.shtml And finally, based on the Beckett web site, card 5 is listed as Dick Cox. Now he never played for the White Sox. For his career, he played for Brookyln (1925-1926, 228 Games in the Outfield). So who is actually on card #5? Whould they make a card of a player who has been out of MLB for almost 5 years and only pitched in one game??? Any thoughts? James Walker, Jr. |

I have an Elmer "Dick" Cox in my player card database. He played in the PCL and also appeared in the e120 set. Thanks to this thread though, I have found out that I somehow skipped over the e126 set as the cards are not in my database. |

and he identifies this card by name in the narrative as being E.T. Cox, who only pitched in one game. |

Charlie Grimm card is the one that causes the dating problem since he never appeared in teh majors until 1932. How could he possibley have a card issued 5 years before? And there are no other Grimm's in MLB history. |

My baseball encyclopedia shows that Charlie Grimm began playing in 1916, and played for 20 seasons, the last in 1936. |

but if it identifies him as a manager, then yes, there is a dating problem, since he did not manage prior to 1932. |

How old does the man in the image look? I think the picture is most likely E. T. Cox. |

my bad. Should have known that Grimm had a playing career and not just a career as a manager. baseball-reference.com shows his manager career first, so I didn't think to look for a player record. |

Charlie Jamieson may have stopped pitching in 1922, but his career as an outfielder lasted another 10 years after that. |

well, it's always good to learn new things. Now I know that I need to scroll down the page when doing quick searches on b-r. Guess that Just leaves good old ET Cox as the enigma of the set. |

If the cards are not listed in the ACC, how did they get E126? Shouldon't it be E-unc? |

True it was never listed in the ACC, but was listed in Eagan's E card Handbook. He must have given the set the designation, which is curious. |
