I took the liberty of starting another pickup thread since the last one takes forever to load.

Received this beauty in the mail today from TBob. Many thanks for parting with the 1912 Zeenut Burch. It's my third 1912 Zeenut. Ironically, I have one each of the 3 back types now.

Thanks Patrick, glad I could help. As you know that's one tough card.
I picked up a couple more from Lionel's collection, can't seem to get enough of them whether they are T cards or E cards.
Also raw Obaks are still a great buy.

The Averill is a high-number. I need only 4 more high-number Diamond Stars.

Joe, nice job with that Cobb -- I didn't even think that it could have been slabbed. Looks great.

The Garter was a trade deal with another board member. We had been working on it, on and off, for about a year . Some things take time.....Also, nice E210 type 2 Cobby......Way to go Scot....

now that is a beautiful Nebraska Baseball item!

(thank you for your kind words on the SGC slab Cobb. Most of the credit goes to you... as it was my nice amount of background information on the item -- obtained because of your help and nudging -- that tipped the scales into slab-ability.)

Nice Kashin Mel Ott rookie card, that must be one of the highest graded ones out there. My Ott rookie is from the 1929 Exhibit 4-on-1 set and also pictures Bill terry.

I was finally able to pick up my last T-206 Red. It took a little longer than I suspected because the others seemed to turn up pretty easily in my price range whereas the Bescher Hands In Air seemed to demand a little higher dollar.
I'm particularly excited because this one is from the Lionel Carter Collection. It makes it special to me to have come from Mr. Carter's collection.

Edited to add: I probably won't break this one out.

I am not a big fan of T201s in general.

But with the two autographs on the card - it becomes ridiculously cool.

nice pickup.

...this card (and a couple of other signed ones I bought) have made me at least pseudo-curious about collection T201's. The signatures just make this card complete, in my humble opinion. I have never seen a dual-signed pre-war card before, and am wondering whether anyone else ever has?

that there is at least one 19th century team cabinet card that was signed by multiple players of the team on the back. Does that count? I do not specifically remember which auction it was from...but I'm pretty sure I do remember it.

Cheers

I don't think you'll ever find a multi player card from the prewar era with multiple autographs like your T201. That is definitely a great card. How did you pick it up, private sale, auction, ebay?

...in a private sale from an autograph dealer. I primarily try to acquire signed T206 cards, but his small collection of signed T201's was too good to pass up. The signed Meyers-Doyle was the only one dual-signed.

On the Dietsche postcard....

What is that by Cobb's feet?

At first glance I thought it was a base -

but it looks more like a jacket.

?

Congratulations on both cards though the Topping is just about the cat's meow. (Bet that's the first time that expression has been used on this Board )

I was so, so close to pulling the trigger on the Topping. It is deluxe!!!

Joe, I don't have a clue but it certainly does not look like a base. Additionally, I can't imagine a scenario which would have Cobb reaching out for a ball so close to a base -- from right field.

it was an infield pop fly

and cobby killed the second baseman by trampling him en route to making a spectacular catch (coming all the way from center field).

those are the remnants of detroit's second baseman.

I know there's a new pick up thread, so I don't mind hyjacking the Cobb "at second base" photo with a ol' baseball story:

I was playing summer college ball (long ago), and was on the bench (like normal). Our infield had a base runner caught off between first and second. However, the infield was putzing aroung trying to tag this guy out, in a four or five throw run-down. Finally, our CF charges in grabs the ball, mid-air, and the runner at the same time, and tackles him (holding the ball, a legit out). BTW, the CF was 6' something 250 lb, who also played line man at Bethune-Cookman. I guess you had to be there, but it was a GREAT play !!!!!

Great story about the center fielder.....since we are OT here's one...when I was in the Marine Corps (long ago) we were playing tackle football...At the time I was wearing glasses..and still do. It was the last play of the game and we were up by more than a touchdown....again, time was already called. The guy running with the ball was headed to the end zone and only I was between him and it. I dove into his knees and tackled him. Five stiches to my eyebrow later I was still happy he didn't get in (we would have won either way though)......oh the days of being young.....sorry, I had to throw this story in somewhere....regards
