Default George Close Candy ( e94) Question

Posted By: Bob

I recently picked up an e94 card of Joe Lake. After inspection I noticed that the edges of the card do not appear straight but more ruff or they appear 'hand cut'. I've noticed other e94 cards that were graded with similar edges.

Is this normal for e94 cards or is this card just trimmed?

How were these candy cards were originally manufactured? Were they 'hand cut' from sheets?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Bob

I am not aware of any legit handcut e94's. Yours looks to be trimmed. As far as I know all E94's should have fairly straight edges. I have handled at least several hundred....though I only have 10-11 as I am a type card collector....Hope this helps....best regards

Hi Bob,

The card you picured is has definitly been hand cut, BUT... unless you've done something to the color of your scan or my monitor is playing tricks with me.. I never seen an E94 with that color ink on the back. Matter of fact for years E94s were called "grey backs" because the backs are printed in a distinct grey ink. What color is the ink on the back of that card? The front looks like a standard E94 but the back could be a unique find. Show us more!

Peter

Okay, false alarm. That's what the backs look like. Too bad, that would have been a very cool find.

Bob- I posted on this board for members to be on the look out for trimmed E94s and E96s which a seller had on a few weeks ago. Yours was one of those cards, that's why the prices were low. Sorry you didn't see my post. I ended BINing one of the E96s which was very sharp but trimmed, with the intention of putting it in an SGC authentic holder. You might consider doing the same.
