A first flannel is something special. Congratulations. If you email me your mailing address at DaveGrob1@aol.com, I will happily send you an original 1969 MLB 100th Anniversary patch (no cost) so that you can restore the jersey.

Default Flannels

Scott,

Got your e-mail and your patch will go out on Monday. Judging from your mailing address, I suspect you might be more of an Indians fan than one of the Reds so I thought you might enjoy seeing a few of my Indians uniforms.

Hi Dave,
Great Indians uni's! Actually, I am a die hard Tigers fan, though.
Do you have any Tigers uniforms for all the Detroit fans out there?

Thanks again!

Default War Time Baseball

As a career Army Officer, one of the favorite segments of my collection are my "War Time" uniforms. Imagine a World Series between the New York Giants and the Chicago White Sox during this period. Combine these uniforms with the red, white, and blue World Series stadium bunting and it would have been a true sight to behold.

Default White Sox Flannels

Mike,

Just a couple of commons with team number changes. The felt swatches in the collar for player identification are no longer present. The home is actually from 1943, but with the number change and missing supplemental identification, could never objectively be attributed to Luke Appling. Bought it as a style as that is what I collect and have built my exemplar library around...common players and coaches with very very few exceptions otherwise.

I've seen that road Sox jersey before up close. Dave Bushing owned it at one time and I took a picture of it when I visited his home.

That home jersey is stunning. Thanks for showing them off.

Love these styles as well... Not only did the Cardinals and Browns share the use of Sportsman Park in 1944, but both teams also employed Bobby Scanlon as their regular season bat boy.

I was lucky enough to find this Sporting News photo a while back and had it enlarged into a very nice supporting graphic. Browns jersey is a 1945 Jack Kramer and the Cardinals is a 1943 Elvin "Buster" Adams.

Are you sure that jersey was worn by Rich Reese? The Twins were notorious for recycling jerseys. The lack of the patch points to it being used post 1969. And that number font was not used by the Minnesota Twins.

Hi Bryan,

Interesting question. I don't claim to be an expert on Minnesota Twins jerseys. Here are photos of an all original 1969 game used jersey of the Twins' George Mitterwald that was sold by Mears in 2008.

Does this uniform number font match mine, or not? PLMK

Here is a Rod Carew from 1969. Note the different font.

http://sports.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...&lotIdNo=13003

Also note the two jerseys posted have the player's name and number stitched into the tail. I would assume your jersey was ordered as a spare. Still a nice jersey.

Well those are simply among the most mouth-watering photos I have ever seen... no over-statement!

Makes me long for time travel, coupled with a visit to good old Crosley Field.

Amazing stuff Dave, and thanks for posting!

Clint,

The Indians jersey dates to the 1927-1928 time frame.

According to Okkonen, it's a one-year style (1928)... but I know there have been exceptions documented in many instances (some probably by Dave G.)

http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.o...ment=15&pos=31

One of these was auctioned recently... but I cannot recall the auction house (on-set of dimentia) and have no time to research. A very rare/beautiful example, none-the-less.

Wow check out that 1928 road Tigers next to the Indians jersey. Has anyone seen one of those with the patch on the back?

Awesome Indians jersey Dave! I've never seen that one before. Great collection as always!

Yeah... that Tigers Jersey must be an absolute killer! Has anyone here ever seen one, or is there any image that exists?

It must be the only jersey with a Mascot patch on the reverse. I cannot even imagine what one of those would realize at auction.

Default Boston Braves

I think you will find that the Boston Braves uniforms c1929-1930 also featured a logo on the back. Much larger version of the Indian head patch typically found on the sleeve.

Sorry to get this back on topic, but that is the exact reason I did not purchase the jersey. I believe it is a number change and although I am FAR from an expert the Carew also has his name stitched in. The numbers are obviously wrong when compared to the Carew. I really wanted this jersey too, but decided to pass because of these things. Maybe Mr Grob could expand on these as I believe him to truely be an expert. I don't know if this detracts heavily or if its just personal preference.

I was offered this same 1969 Reese jersey and rejected it for the same reasons Sylbry mentions - specifically, the numbers on the back are not even close. The numbers look like the font used by the Angels or Red Sox, but definitely not the Twins. You can find all sorts of examples of the number 2 on pictures taken in 1969 (or other flannel years) and see what I mean.

I told the guy who offered it to me about the problem and provided pictures to him. I'm a little disappointed he sold it to you anyways, apparently not telling you of the problem. If you want to email me, I will forward the email I sent him, which includes links to some relevant pictures.

If I had thought that jersey was right, I'd own it now. :-)
