Real or fake?

Fake sign definitely. The figurine is probably real (maybe a cake topper). I had another item like that with a fake sign and some sort of dangle item attached.

Now I am not 100% certain. Does the figurine sticker look pasted on? I do not recall the fake sign with dangle that I had actually referenced the attached item. I wish I could be of more help.

It’s 100% fake. I was posting this for a Facebook group that wasn’t allowing any negative comments about it. The post was deleted shortly after I posted a link to Net54.

That is good to know. I should have gone with my initial instinct.

fake
sign (really obvious) real sticker and no idea about that "thing" :-) Guess they couldn't get anyone to buy that very common faked sign and figured MONSTER MASH

Just my opinion but, if this were real and the "thing" that is attached to the card was done at the factory don't you think they would have done a better and more professional job of attaching it other than just poking holes through the card? Look at the metal ring that is attached to hold the card to the wall. I would assume a more professional look like that.

Also, why would Lorillard use Babe Ruth 5 years after he died in an advertising campaign?

Thankfully, fake makers don't know the history of typography. The typeface they used for "COPYRIGHT 1953" wasn't cut until... 1957

That and the “pewter toy compliments of” look completely out of place.

I like how the pewter Babe (in pitching pose?) appears to have been fastened to the cardboard before whatever the artificial-aging schmutz was sprayed on, so that he's caked with it on the front but behind him is clean. Reminds me of a painting mishap from an old cartoon or something.
