Catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers 1948-1957. 1,161 hits and 242 home runs in 10 MLB seasons. 8-time All-Star. 1955 World Series champion. 3-time NL Most Valuable Player (1951, 1953, 1955). 1953 NL RBI leader. Career 57% base-stealers-thrown-out is highest in MLB history. Los Angeles Dodgers #39 retired. 1969 MLB Hall of Fame. Prior to his career in MLB, played for the Washington/Baltimore Elite Giants. Career cut short by auto accident.

#47 Ned Gaver. A hard-luck pitcher, he is most famous for winning 20 games for the St. Louis Browns. Also, at the first show that I ever attended (1973), his 1951 Bowman became one of my early purchases of a vintage baseball card because I liked the way it looked.

Monford "Monte" Irvin. Left fielder for the NY Giants in 1949-1955 after all-star performances in the Negro National League and the Mexican League and service during WWII. First black player to play for the New York Giants. With Willie Mays and Hank Thompson, part of the first all black outfield in MLB. 1952 All-Star. 1954 World Series champion. 1951 NL RBI leader. San Francisco Giants #20 retired. 1973 MLB Hall of Fame. 5-time Negro League All-Star. 1946 Negro League World Series champion.
