Default Cobb "taking a Sprague"

I've never seen this rare "1917 Sprague" before, but from the look on Cobb's face I think I know what a "Sprague" is.

...on the back of the "card" you'll see the back half of an airplane sticking out of something else you can't see...

THAT combined with the look on Cobb's face is hilarious!

Hi I am some what of an amatuer collector, a frequent visitor to the board, though I have never posted I wonder excatly what are htese things that this seller is dealing. I am somewhat emabarassed to say now that I actually bought an item from this seller about 3 months ago, not knowing what is was I put it in my collection box and never paid much attention. 3 months ago I paid over $280 for this particular item, now I just dug it out and now I see tons of these going on ebay for $50-$80. Do prices drop that fast on cards usually? or did I get scammed?
Like I said, I am an amatuer and after discovering this board about a month ago I feel like I must trust your guys opinion on this matter

They are pictures scissor cut out of old basbeall guides or similar publications and presented deceptively as cards. In reality they are worth essentially nothing-- for the same reason that the Mike Piazza picture I cut out of today's Seattle Times would worth nothing.

To save you future heartache, I strongly recommend you never buy cards in NASA, AAA or PRO holders. Also, until you are very experienced, never buy a card that is not listed in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards (Krause Publications) or the Beckett Baseball Card Almanac.

Despite what they claim, all knowledgeable collectors and dealers have learned by the way of hard knocks, so consider this a $280 learning experience.

I also wish to note, that Lester's post shows exactly why we should continue to complain about Libertyforall et al.

I feel that there are a number of people who could make a difference but (for all I know) have not lifted a finger to contact eBay and voice their opinion. I do not find acceptable that all those 'big and important' people like Derek Grady, Bill Mastro, Steve Rochi and James Beckett (many who no doubt lurk at this board) have not contacted eBay to complain. If these are the 'pillars' of the hobby, I'm glad I sell photographs.
