It was a pleasure to introduce the photography of the Deadball Era to baseball fans at the local museum. Always interesting to see how non-collectors react. A room full of baseball fans enjoyed seeing the images and hearing the stories.

Over 3/4ths of the print run have already been sold and the book has been named a finalist for the CASEY Award to be announced in January. Order by Monday the 18th for delivery by Christmas.

That was excellent! Interesting stuff... that was a very nicely centered Walter Johnson, cracker Jack for the issue.

Hi Jim,

Just ordered the book and then realized the original age of this post. Did you sell out of the #'d books?

Thanks guys, the #’d copies have sold out, aside from a few I set aside for myself. However, I’d be glad to sign the the standard copies ordered by Net54 members.

Baseball Photography of the Deadball Era wins second place for the 2023 CASEY Award given to the best baseball book of the year!

In a photo finish for first, my book received 1st, 2nd and 8th place votes from the three judges while the winner received 1st, 2nd and 5th place votes. It was just that close! Congratulations to the winner, Joe Posnanski, and the third place finisher, Steve Geitschier.

Onwards and upwards to SABR’s upcoming contests for the Seymour Medal given to the best work of baseball history or biography and the Larry Ritter Award presented to the best book set primarily in the Deadball Era. I look forward to seeing those results in the coming weeks and months.

If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, order soon before it sells out!

Jim,

Congrats on coming in 2nd in the Casey. Certainly a tall task to beat out Posnanski, who netted his 3rd Casey.

Best of luck with the upcoming awards! You certainly deserve an award or two for your amazing book.

I was honored to participate in the CASEY Awards for best baseball book of 2023 in Cincinnati last weekend. Below is me accepting the award for 2nd place and a group shot of fellow winners Joe Posnanski (1st center) and Steve Geitscher (3rd, second from left). Many thanks to Mike Shannon (at left) and his team for putting on a wonderful production.

Congrats!!

It's very telling that your tome occupied the prime, centered ('money') position on the display table. Good stuff!!
