Default HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY weekend everyone

That's me in 1960 enlisted in an 11-month Air Force Radar Specialist School in Illinois. Then in 1961 was stationed at a
B-52 Bomber Strategic Air Command (SAC) base in Northern Maine. It was a great 4-year experience, that I was really
proud to be part of. Especially during the Fall of 1962 when the Cuban Missile crises occurred. That was scary stuff. The
B-52 Bombers and F-102 Fighter planes from our SAC base were deployed to South Carolina and Florida bases ready in
case some serious action against the "Russkies" was needed.
In 1963 I was re-assigned to the Tech School in Illinois to teach Radar Electronics. Returned to civilian life in Aug. 1964.

" straighten out that tie....Airman"

..

Thanks to all you Military Veterans for your Service to this great Country.

Fly those flags boys!
In memory of those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today in this country and oft take for granted.

Grandpa Leonard who fought Hitler from Tobruk, North Africa all the way up the boot of Italy.

Uncle Herb who did two tours as a Marine pilot in Southeast Asia and lost his battle with the demons that produced.

Uncle Lew, 1 tour artillery fire base in the same war, didn't want to be there like so many young men but did his part anyway.

My xwifes Uncle Chuck who disappeared at Tarawa and was never found.

I'll remember you all, and thank you to every veteran that has served our great country. I'll be tipping a wee dram in your honor this weekend.

My wife has a tradition of visiting family at the local cemetery. So this year we visited my grandpa in the local veteran's section. MP at Hanford in WWII.

Ted. Thank you and all our other veterans for your service and sacrifice for our great country. I do wish more Americans remembered what Memorial Day is really about.

Ted,

Cannot thank you enough for what you've done for our wonderful country. I cannot even fathom what it was like going off to War. I'm sure you have so many interesting stories.

On Memorial Day, many things always come into my head when thinking of the Men that served and came back along with the men who served and lost their lives fighting for our country. I always think of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Here's my favorite rendition of it below. I hope you enjoy it

Just got back from our towns Memorial Day Parade. Sad to see how much
smaller it had gotten over the years. We don't honor our veterans anywhere
near what they deserve anymore.

Headstone for my great-great-grandfather, WiIey Ge0rge Daw$0n; killed 16 May 1863 in the battle of Champion's Hill at Vicksburg, MS during the civil war. He was with Company B, 24th Indiana Infantry.

And the grave marker of my 5x great-grandfather, Brig Gen WiIIiam Iee Dav1d$0n. He was killed 1 Feb 1781 at Cowan's Ford, NC during the Revolutionary War, while attempting to stop Lord Cornwallis' troops from advancing.
