YESTERDAY'S FIRST ROUND RESULTS:

We had 3 blowout victories, with some of the big guns advancing:

Mathewson 29 - 11 Waddell
Wagner 25 - Dougherty 12
Plank 28 - Brown 9

... which is actually great, as we are now assured an epic Plank-Wagner heavyweight bout in the 2nd round!

Updated bracket: http://www.challonge.com/mrt206

I will post the new matchups shortly...

Agree, both Cobbs are classics... But I am afraid the green got more nominations! (Plus I only want to include one pose per subject, for simplicity.)

Default Titus goes down!

YESTERDAY'S RESULTS:

As always, the polls above will be left open for fun, but I am calling these now...

We have some greats advancing:

WaJo mows down the chubby cheeks of McIntyre 42-12
Young defeats Killian handily 35-15

... and also some fantastic upsets:

Rucker shaves The 'Stache 29-23!!! ('Stache backlash???)
A well-groomed Dahlen takes down the Hideous mug of HOFer Evers 29-20!

Updated bracket: http://challonge.com/mrt206

Thanks to all who voted.

YESTERDAY'S RESULTS:

Collins takes down Kling with ease 28-17

After falling behind in the early voting, Keeler surges a comback to defeat Ladies Man Ginger Beaumont 23-18

Mispelled Magie squeaks by a pondering Merkle 23-20 (Really??? I like the Merkle pose much better!)

Lajoie defeats Lobert 29-14

I think we saw a HOF bias with voting yesterday. If I remove the individual and just vote based on the composition I can't see Lajoie or Keeler winning. But as they say, that's why we vote. BTW - great idea David, fun post!

Thanks Bill. Yeah, I thought the same... On a neutral playing field, no way Keeler takes out the dreamy Beaumont!

I was thinking the same when Wagner won. I think this would be a better competition for our significant others since they don't have the bias we have.

Otherwise, I may have to create a bunch of fake Net54 accounts to make sure my favorites get through...

[Edited: Just a reminder to those interested in voting, that the current ballot is initiated as a new post, but can also always be found in the first post in this thread.]

Shags vs. Titus would be a good battle. The wave vs. the whiskers.

Final Round 1 results:

Walsh defeats Grifith 33-14

Cobb takes out Revelle 36-12

Bender edges Elberfeld 27-22

Shaughnessy shags Wiltse 32-16

Tough to argue with any of those...

Round two results:

Chase takes down Matty 23-16

Wagner's powers are too much for Plank (Wagner 23 - Plank 17)

In an all time great pitching duel, WaJo rightfully destroys Young 36-2 (Would the 2 Young voters like to confess???)

Tie: Rucker-Dahlen are tied at 19-19 - This battle of the common man remains open, I will check it tomorrow to see if we can break the tie...

The "Sweet Caporal 16" ends with...

Wee Willie takes out Collins 17-12

Lajoie easily defeats Magie 22-9

Cobb also gets an easy win over Walsh 21-9

In a surprise: Bender edges Shag 16-14! (Then why does Shag cost so much?!)

and finally, in overtime, Rucker wins over Dahlen 34-30.

Updated bracket: http://www.challonge.com/mrt206

The final schedule for the competition will be:
Elite 8: Today (Wed.)
Final 4: Thurs.
Final: Friday (winner will be declared during the NFL early games on Sunday!)

And we end the "Mr. T206 Competition" with a final battle of two worthy candidates, with widely acclaimed portraits (not to mention, the best pitcher and batter of their time)...

In the left corner, standing at 6'1" and weighing in at 200 lbs., sporting a career record of 417-279 with 3509 KOs, Walter "The Big Train" Johnson!
... and in the right corner, standing at 6'1" and weighing 175 lbs., with a lifetime 4189 hits and 879 stolen bases, "The Georgia Peach" Ty Cobb!

Who shall be crowned "Mr. T206"?

To honor our finalists, all are encouraged to post their examples of these two fine subjects!

See their respective paths to the finals via the updated bracket here: www.challonge.com/mrt206

To give all who want to a chance to vote, the poll will be left open though the weekend, and I will call the result when I get to work Monday morning (i.e. in the middle of Sunday night, for most of you!).

David, great thread. That was a lot of fun. Why don't you do the same thing with non- portraits? You could start with:

Cobb bat off shoulder
Mathewson dark cap
Chase dark cap
Mike Mitchell
Speaker
Donlin fielding

and I'm sure some other members can come up with some more suggestions.

Another idea would be portraits from other sets and then have a new bracket where the winners from each set go up against each other. Either way I am not ready for the fun to end either. haha.

I agree. I had a lot of fun following along and voting.
How about 4 brackets:
caramel bracket
gum bracket
t bracket
other candy bracket

Could potentially have CJ Joe Jackson against the e102 Cobb
