Default Judge Landis Rookie and John Thorns 100 Most Important List

After many failed starts I think I have finally figured out a new collecting project. John Thorn a few years ago put out an essay listing the 100 most important figures in baseball history. The list, which is attached below, has players managers owners writers and labor organizers. I am trying to put together a collection of 100 cards (or as close to cards as possible) for each individual. I am very curious if any board members have interesting suggestions for any cards. I have a limited budget and would say please don’t suggest any cards over 1k. To give example here is my “card” for Judge Landis. A 1927 booklet that was part of the Men Of America series and actually has an ACC number. Looking for similar less well known cards for these individuals

Cool project. A hundred cards for each player and next thing you know you will have 10,000 cards. Good luck!

I checked out the link in the OP, and it has extensive writeups of the first two on the list, Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson in the first article, and I assume additional articles about the others on the list. I copied the list over (minus the ranking number on the list which just didn't copy...you will just have to use your imagination). Definitely an interesting list, and a few on there that will be tough to get much cards/memorabilia (for example super agent Scot Boras...perhaps a magazine article? And how about Judge Bramham...who in the fadoodle? Had to look him up).

Babe Ruth
Jackie Robinson
Alexander Cartwright
Marvin Miller
Branch Rickey
Roberto Clemente

Actually Scott Boras will be easy - he has a late 1970’s minor league card

Try original press photos (or possibly real photo postcards if you are extremely lucky) for any non-MLB individuals.

I have actually decided not to consider photos- I realize that this may make a few impossible. For the judge for example I may try to find a campaign flyer and consider that as close to card as possible

Political pins/buttons may be another option to consider, such as Morgan Bulkeley.

Scott Boras signed index card now on eBay. Or send an SASE to his office and ask for a business cards. I used to get them from Orioles executives and a couple of owners.

Interesting list. I question a few choices. I would take Mariano Rivera over Bruce Sutter, Sandy Koufax over Greg Maddox, and Vin Scully over Red Barber. I would also eliminate Ned Hanlon, Candy Cummings, and Abner Doubleday.
