Default A Detailed Tribute to Uncle Jimmy as The Final Auction Closes Sunday Feb 21, 2021

As we come to a close with the Uncle Jimmy Collection auctions (final auction ends this weekend on Sunday February 21), we wanted to take a moment to memorialize the person behind the collection, James "Uncle Jimmy" Micioni. We put together this more detailed story about Uncle Jimmy and his collection to honor Uncle Jimmy and recognize his love of baseball and collecting!

Here is the link to the Uncle Jimmy tribute:
https://www.wheatlandauctionservices...al%20Story.pdf

Amazingly my father grew up a block and a half from Jimmy in Boonton, NJ. Jimmy was about half way between my father's and my grandfather's age. All the kids knew him, and most had seen his amazing collection. Needless to say I gave my father a hard time for not informing me he knew someone with a collection like that, but congrats to Chuck on an amazing series of auctions.

Show 'em if ya got 'em!

The only active player in both the T206 and 1933 Goudey set, Jack Quinn. I'll never find a signed T206 of him, so this will have to do!

Born: July 1, 1883 in Stefurov, Slovakia
Died: April 17, 1946 in Pottsville, PA

Such a hard signature to find, and Uncle Jimmy had several!

...and Lefty Grove because, well.... he's LEFTY GROVE!

Every time uncle Jimmy's auction ended I would wait a week and call and ask for Stacey to see when the next auction would start. Thanks for keeping his story alive.

Chuck, fantastic tribute to Uncle Jimmy, and incredible job over the past year with his collection. It's nice to call you a friend, and really appreciate you stopping by and letting me hold the Holy Grail of Ruth Goudey's this evening. The card is AMAZING!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. We set out to get the story of Uncle Jimmy Uncle out to every collector and were shocked to learn that the story got to people around the world who just loved the story of Jimmy. With the crazy pandemic, it seemed like the story was a breath of fresh air to collectors and non collectors. It was translated into Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese print stories across the globe. I had a request to post some links to some of the news stories - here are a few of the many:

Please keep us updated throughout the day and tomorrow. Is there a place we can go online to see the bidding?

You can go here to follow along with the auction that ends Sunday night (2/21) - lots start ending one at a time at 7 PM EST:
https://www.wheatlandauctionservices.com/catalog.aspx

You can jump in at any time to bid, or just feel free to watch. Still some great items from the Uncle Jimmy collection, including large lots of cards and photos. Even Uncle Jimmy's postage stamps and much more.

Good luck!

Serious question on grading as I don't own any graded cards and do not understand the system.
That signature is perfect. It is in the absolute perfect spot on the card as if it were printed there. The autograph obviously was not rushed or manipulated in any way. What could possibly cause it not to be a 10? How could it be improved?

Good questions. With the 1933 and 1934 Goudeys we sent in hundreds of clean, bold-colored, and nice corner/edges cards and we rarely got higher than 4.5. Every one of us who has held this Ruth card thought it looked near flawless and they likely had the biggest issue with the centering maybe. With regard to autograph grading, if there is part of the autograph that is lighter or skips a little, it could take the grade down. Hands down, everyone who inspected the 6 signed Ruth cards from this collection thought they were amazing and seemed to like this one the best of the 6.
