Nothing like throwing in a political shot into a card thread.
None of those supposed tax proposals are attributable in real time.

I'm so tired of scare mongering mate, I need less in my life not more.
Come back when any become recommendations to take to a vote in Congress, cool?

it’s an actual article. I have more technical tax articles to back it up but I guess you’d see this as scare mongering.... and who are you to say for me to come back. I can write what I want, same as you. If you want to talk down to someone as if they were children, talk to your kids, cool?

You said it. He's 26 now. We have gotten to go to countless card shows. While he's not as interested in the cards for the time being, he loves baseball. We go to minor league games all the time and have gotten to do three spring training trips together. He plays softball and I'm on the roster. Even as I conclude my 60th trip around the sun, I still get into a few games each year and hold my own. I am a very blessed fellow.

For those that do want to know what may change in taxes, I’ve posted another link under the water cooler- offftopic. It’s called “Potential tax changes under Biden“

If people who own a modest portfolio of collectibles, stocks, and real estate to gift to their children aren't aware of what the current administration is trying to do to your children you have your head in the sand.

What the current administration is trying to do to my children?

This kind of BS is thread ban worthy.

No, you can't write what you want.

There are rules re political commentary on this forum.
When you add your obvious perjorative slant you only encourage a back and forth between posters who would argue the opposite view.

IMO, that's not what the Net54 vintage baseball cards forum is meant to do.
Feel free to check with the mods.

Relax man and take the politics out of it. If you move the inheritance tax from 10 mil to 3 mil how does that not affect your children. It's not political it's economic, I don't give a shit who's in office.

That tax threshold has gone up and down with every administration for ever.
Both sides debate it and usually find common ground.
Scaremongering what it will before there is ANY indication of that outcome is dumb in my opinion.

Should I start in now on possible takes by prospective candidates for Presidency at the next election and how they could affect the tax treatment of collectables?

This administration has been in government how long?
Comparing the positions laid out as their preferred agenda pre election (or what is speculated as being the agenda by certain media outlets) and what will get done through the passage of legislation is folly.

Cmon, who are we fooling, the current administration has a house and senate majority and they're pissed that the orange popsicle made it in for 4 years, taxes are going up not only on collectibles but anything they deem as "wealthy". You know whose gonna suffer as usual? Working class and middle class folks trying to get ahead, climb the ladder, and make a better life for their kids. It's been that way to 40 years, it ain't gonna change.

Back to the cards and away from the political bull crap.

So I just found some beautiful Land in Door County WI that would be a fantastic place for a vacation cottage. I would sell the hell out my cards to afford both the land and the improvements. Alas, my collection wouldn’t even get me the land 😁.

But I’d sell a card that has increased to stratospheric levels (as postulated in the initial post) in a heartbeat to fund it. Ideally some new age 1:1 stupid NBA card or a gem mint Henderson, not a PSA6 Uzit Cobb.

Thanks for asking, Tim. She graduated UC Davis last year with a degree in biology of global disease and had already planned for a year off before COVID hit. For grad school she is looking at Masters of Public Health programs. This morning we got word she'd been admitted to a joint program of the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She'd previously been admitted to Columbia. She still has several applications out there too.

Good on her and her parents. Mine are 10 and 2(I'm an old dad) but I know I would be proud. One of my Marines just graduated from Columbia and is headed to MIT. My younger Marines are like my kids so I got a taste of what it might feel like.

That's very exciting! And in a profession that couldn't be more needed right now. I've got a radiologist and a top line RN in my family. They both work their butts off.

Default I sold about $30k worth October 2020

I needed more cash to buy another house in Big Bear that we now rent through Airbnb. Check it out Zen Lodge Big Bear. We are trying to get enough passive income so we dont have to work. Needless to say I sold a lot of cards that I wish I hadn't as it would cost me a LOT more to get them back just a few months later. Some of the highlights I sold were a 61 #8 Chamberlain PSA 6, 51 Mantle PSA 2, 51 Mays PSA 1, 39 Williams PSA 1, 38 DiMaggio PSA 1, 79 Gretzky PSA 3, 72 Erving PSA 8 (which i paid $1k for about 2 years ago!) and many more. I have contemplated selling all of my my collection but I am a much better buyer than I am a seller!!! Here are couple of picks of at the time were scary purchases which created some issues with my wife but turned out to be smart decisions. I paid $11k for the Jackson and the $4,600 for the Nagurski.
