Default Is This Live Ink?

What is your opinion on this? It's an 1873 insurance policy signed in the lower-left by Duncan F. Curry. He was the secretary of the company, and founding member and first president of the Knickerbocker baseball team (yeah, I know -- another Knickerbocker item!). There's no question as to the authenticity of the document, but I can't tell whether the signature is a stamp, preprinted within the document, or live ink. What do you think?

Pre-printed by the looks of it. Just compare with the live ink underneath.

BillyCox3, thanks! It's weird, as I can swear I see places where it looks as though ink is crossing over other ink, and places where the ink looks lighter than in other places, but in a stamp or preprint it would all be uniform. But it's still pretty cool nonetheless.
