Default Does anyone know anything about these cards?

Posted By: mckna

I found a bunch of these cards in an aunts attic.
I am trying to find out what type of cards they are and if they are worth anything.
I know they are from before the 1940's.

Thanks

I believe that they are cut up 4 on 1 Exhibits from the 1930's. Ruth and DiMaggio each appeared in more than one year. I am not sure if you can tell what year they are from the pose or not.

The Ruth is definitely from one of several exhibit sets. Judging from the PC back shown with the Ruth, you are probably looking at the early 1930's. The Dimaggio may be from a collector's issue or the late 1930s; only a close viewing of the card stock would clear it up. Ruth and Dimaggio missed each other by a few years in NYC, so the cards are not from the same set.

In terms of value, assuming they are vintage 1930s exhibits they do have some value, but not much. I've seen cut up exhibits offered for sale and drawing no more than a few dollars each.

the Babe Ruth is almost certainly a 1/4 of a 1929-1930 card. Dimaggio is a 1937 card quarter panel.

If we sent the 1/4 of the exhibit postcard to GAI or PSA for review, will they encapsulate and label the card AUTHENTIC-TRIMMED?

if they were rejected by the "big 3"(which they would be). there is always VSA for all your grading needs. they are the WORLD leaders in authenticating and slabbing worth less cut outs.

They'd label it "1/4 Authentic"
