He didn't respond to my emails asking for a guarantee of authenticity or better scans.

I would stay away from that auction, the seller deals with 1950's lower-priced items and the scans are very poor.

"This baseball card was found in my grandfathers attic along with several others that could possibly be thrown on ebay."
mentioning of grandfather when selling baseball cards is first lesson on page 1 in the book "selling phoney baseball cards for dummies"

My question is why does the card look layered? Take a close look at the cards edges they look wavy to me.When you emailed him did you email him with plenty of time to respond.I will say if it turns out real then someone got a ebay steal & I would rather that be the case. Thanks for posting

As I told Dave, that card makes me nervous. And what are those purple lines around the perimeter? Plus that grandfather's attic stuff is a real deal killer.

Barry....as far as the purple I took that to maybe be construction paper he layed the card on when scanning....but its such a poor scan who knows.

I will say when I asked him for scans....I did ask him for what he'd end the auction for..he said he was open to offers. After getting the scans I told him unfortunately I thought it was fake...he never responded back again.

He may have laid the card on purple construction paper for contrast, but the borders appear to go past the purple line, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me.

Last time on ebay I didn't think one was real and it was....and changed my mind part way through the auction....It's now my sample copy. You can compare the current one to this one....

When you compare this one to Leon's, which looks real even without the holder, it is clearly no good. I think we are unanimous.

Now the seller has for sale an E104 Nadja Wagner. I emailed him and asked
what the heck that red background is that's on the card in his scans.
His reply was?????????????????????????????????

""The red back ground is still there from when it was cut out of the back of the cigarettes box. Its better that way because the card itself hasn't been cut out yet, so you can cut it if you want, but I never did. Like a paper cutter you can make sure the edges are perfect if you decide to cut it.""

funny that the guy who won the "rare" evers Obak card appears to be a card dealer and even lives in the same state as the seller ? when I asked the seller about the Wagner card he said the several dealers in the Middletown New york area have told him that it was real, so he is expecting to get a big chunk of change from this sale.

I'm taking all my vintage reprints to Middletown N.Y. to sell ....!!!

No. It is not an authentic N167. His Wagner card isn't real, either. For all the 'no' reasons above...

All the signs are here. 1- it doesn't look correct, a bit too shiny. 2- his feedback is 8. 3- almost always when they talk about their grandfather it is a con. 4- no email back about a return policy. 5- that purple background in BOTH scans, I can see how purple paper might be behind it in the holder in one scan, but it looks like they took the purple paper out and put it back behind the card to scan the reverse, too... if the card and paper are going to be removed, wouldn't you just scan the card only, front and back? 6- most of the bid increments are in nice round dollars, that's not how we bid, that's how an uneducated shill bids. (And that is not saying that everyone who bids that way is an uneducated shill.)

No, sir. I'd not send an SASE to have that card for free.

Following up on Frank's observations....look at the bids placed by BIDDER 1: a person who really wants something would almost NEVER bid in that fashion (and furthermore bid 7 minutes before an auction ends)...

If the card IS real--which I doubt--we're dealing with shill bidding here at the least.

Further proof that eBay is a fencer's paradise!
