Default November Pick Ups

I didn't see a November pick up thread, so I'll start. These just arrived from REA's recent auction. The grades look awfully low to me. But I guess that's to my benefit because the grades apparently held the prices down.

Hi Jim, nice pickup! I've never seen that premium before. It reminds me of the 1948 RKO Theatre Babe Ruth premium.

Default #409 in the quest for a “complete” set.

It has been since August 2023 that a Howe-stamped card needed to get to a “complete” set of 522 has shown up (since the McCormick Howe Mercantile didn’t sell Polar Bear, there is no Demmitt or O’Hare). Jeff contacted me last week, saying he had found this in a lot he recently purchased and was checking to see if it was one I still needed. Indeed it was. Of the 114 needed to get to a complete set, it was one of the 85 I hadn’t seen show up in any auction or anyone’s collection.

Thanks, Jeff, now down to 113.

I was able to check another set off in my quest for early Indianapolis baseball — Denny was the last MLB position player to play his entire career without a glove.

It's been amazing to learn about so many issues through this site since I joined 3 months ago.

Always on the lookout for an 1888 WG1 and 1950 Sawyer Biscuit 8x10 ...

Sweet! I wonder if these all came out at the same time. Can you show your Allied Artist premium front and back? I'm not sure if I've seen that one either. Thanks!

I've observed you here on N54 from a distance making these pick ups for years. I think it's probably the neatest thing I've seen. It is inspiring. I would love to do something just like this somehow. Good luck to you as you track down the rest.

Tony, the Punch Cobb might be the last Cobb I really want. I had a chance to get it years ago in an auction and somehow screwed it up. I pester the owner once every few years and he has politely not moved for a restraining order. To his credit, he's collecting the set and is a great guy so I really have no good argument for deserving the card.
