Default Bruce Sutter

Saw him pitch while attending games in the 1982 World Series. Series went 7 games. Brewers had Fingers. Darrell Porter ended up the MVP.

Did he go in Hall as a Cardinal ?

My wife, my son and I with Bruce Sutter about 12 years ago. My son is taller than me now….

He was a very nice, personable guy

First master of the split-finger fastball. As a long-suffering Cubs fan in the '70's, I really hated seeing Bruce traded away, especially to the Cards. Man, you'd think the curse of Lou Brock would have been retired after 15 years. Still, he had six more saves in five seasons with the Cubs than he totaled with St. Louis, but I guess the WS ring was why he went into the Hall as a Cardinal.

The local athletic complex I was on the board of directors for hosted a BPA (youth baseball) tournament. At that time we were bringing in ball players for a meet and greet with the teams and players. We brought in Ken Griffey, Scott Sanderson, Bill Buckner, and others.

It was a day long thing and I think the players enjoyed it as much as the kids. It was pretty costly though.

Afterward there was an opportunity for the complex staff and board members to meet. He signed a bunch of cards, and let us wear his World Series ring

Super nice guy, as were all the others we brought in.
