Default 1906 Cubs National League Pennant Postcard

Posted By: spaceops03

Just picked this up recently and had a few questions. Is this a cataloged issue and if so what is it valued at? (Just want to know if I overpaid)

Thought the little bit of text at the bottom was interesting, a Detroit Tigers fan writing on a Cubs postcard!

Default 1906 Cubs National League Pennant Postcard

Hi-
This is one of two postcards (the other is the White Sox) published by V. O. Hammond (Chicago) in 1906 to celebrate that year's two pennant winners. They are catalogued in SCBC on p. 170. Yours looks to be a Vg/Vg- which is listed at $175. I picked up mine two years ago at a large flea market (I know, I know, the old "flea market" gambit, but it's true) while visiting my brother who lives west of Chicago. I paid $160 for both, and they're strong Vg/Vg+, although postally used. Hope this helps.

Regards, Mike

Nice pick up Mike! I saw that one on Ebay.. I have a couple of these and feel they are under valued like most post cards (except Rose). Where else can you get a clear team PIC with all their names on it for under 200 bucks?

quick update...I bought another one of these on Ebay, after receiving it today I noticed a slight change form my original...this one has the same picture, but has an addition line added...1907 pennant winner also....

on the back it has a 1907 postdate and stamp...

i think they used the same postcard the next year and just added the 1907 line,,,

anyways its a variation....

after looking at this further I see it was postdated oct 9th.

The writing on mine says 12 inning tie, the cubs are alright,

interesting to me as the game on oct 8th was the only world series tie....
