I’m so thankful that Frank Robinson was traded to the Orioles in late ’65 and was considered by the Reds, “an old 30”. Brooks said, “Frank gave us everything of himself and we accepted everything he gave us.”…”He solidified the club” and “We became a great team when he came.”

Posted for Clint (ksfarmboy) This card is from the 1975 NST Mr. Baseball set and is card #62. It looks like Earl Weaver with the mic (correct me if I'm wrong) along with Shigeo Nagashima and Brooks Robinson being interviewed together.

There are two cards, which include card #62, with Brooks pictured in this set.

I have the two cards in this set purchased from Scott (quitcrab) years ago. I'm sure both photos for these cards were taken when the Orioles toured Japan in 1971 just three days after losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates in seven games. It was a month tour in Japan to play 18 games against the best teams in Japan. The Orioles won 12 games, lost 2 and tied four.

Looking at card #62 up close that's likely not Earl Weaver so I'm not sure who it is; interpreter?

I think the announcer is Jim McKay from ABC's Wide World of Sports fame, who was a Baltimore native and who later had minority ownership stake in the Orioles.

To me, with the closeup shot, the fellow with the mic looks Japanese. I don’t think it’s McKay, but I’ve been wrong before

I vaguely remember a portion of some of those games were shown on the Wide World of Sports

While we are on the Orioles 1971 Japan Tour theme, here are a few ticket stubs from the tour. I posted a few publications a couple of days ago. Not knowing Japanese, my guess is they are from Oct 24, Oct 27 and Nov 14.

Really like those tickets; look like neat items to collect. Be fun to collect all 18 games. Of course I’d have to at least get ONE first

I saw a poster advertising the ‘71 tour, but came up short on the bidding. Basically it was similar to the format of the ticket with the pitcher (Palmer).

Yeah that 71 Japan tour produced some great looking items. The 1971 Orioles AL championship ring is one beautiful item to behold and it mentions the series on it. Wish I had one. Great tickets and magazines guys.

If I remember right, Pat Dobson threw a no-hitter during the Japan tour. A ticket from that game would be nice.

I should of went higher on the poster. In the scheme of things it didn’t go for a lot of money. If I ever have the opportunity again I’ll go all out on it (as long as I have the money at the time ).

I don’t really have anything good to post today to pay tribute to #21 on Day 21. So, I’ll post a 1974 All-Star Game program; it’s the best I’ve got on hand with the two kinda pictured (I’m sure others have something more suited to salute Clemente (I like glove boxes…”nudge nudge”). Also, I’ll picture a small magazine/booklet called, “The All Star Legend” with them both pictured on the cover.

I thought I would post some Rawlings Premiums. I believe these two colored versions where in the glove box if you bought a new glove. One per box. The day time one with the blue sky is much more common in my collecting experience .

I don't have much in my collection that directly relates to Roberto Clemente, but I did find a couple of spring training programs you might enjoy. Teams often play games at the end of spring training closer to where they open their season. The Orioles have played in Norfolk in recent years. Here are a couple of late spring training programs.

I think this type of Premium was given to Sporting Goods stores and displayed. The one of Brooks standing (autographed) is the only one I have ever seen of that Premium.

I think they came in glove boxes as well, but there must have been another avenue to get these color Rawlings premium photos. While they may not be common I do see them often enough (at least the day version) to conclude it couldn't be just in glove boxes. They are GREAT pictures though...

WOW! Both of these programs are very nice. I like to see how they did a lot of work and design to get these things specific to the games played. I also enjoy when they put pictures on the cover of these programs; enjoy seeing all the stars at the time on the covers. Of course if it's just artwork I like that as well. I guess I'm easy to please when it comes to these items.

Like I've told you in the past that's the only one I've ever seen as well of the example which is autographed. Just notice all of the Brooks signatures in the white box of the photo are all the same "except" for the standing w/hand in the glove premium. Also, the box is a lot higher than the others as well. Maybe that was made for something special (like Carl's birthday )

Day 22 (January 22, 2020 – 022)

Thought I’d post something Jim Palmer related today and came across an 11”x14” picture of Earl Weaver, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer the Orioles ACE. Of course in this picture they are all retired, but just a nice shot of the four. It’s sad that two of the four have already passed.

One of my favorite issues ever produced by Topps. How these full panels of stickers survived is beyond me. I have some in my collection that where peeled off of bed headboards and wooden doors !! I Like that Seaver and Aaron share this piece with Frank.Frank appears twice in the set as the center large sticker. Last year I drove Frank and his wife in my car and the conversation was great ! I will save that store for another day when I post another Frank item.

On May 12 1984, Jim Palmer was used in mop up duty by pitching the last two innings (surrendering 4 runs) of a 12-2 drubbing at the hands of the Oakland A's.

That game turned out to be the last time Cakes ever appeared in a Major League Game.

Here is home plate umpire Rick Reed's lineup card from that game...A couple years ago I had Jim signed & inscribe it:

This is the pen presented to Jim Palmer for being one of the announcers at the last game of Memorial Stadium. Like his spring training comeback uniform, I was able to purchase this directly from his ex-wife.

Postcards are a part of my collection that I really enjoy. Besides team issued postcards of the Orioles, there are a bunch of different postcards that have been produced over the years by various individuals. Some of these, like the Mike Anderson issues, are very well done.

Today, I would like to highlight the 1975 Mengler-Peterson set. From a google search, they are described as follows....

In 1975, Clarence Mengler joined with artist Keith Peterson to produce this B&W sketch postcard set for autograph hunters....Original production was 200 sets...Estimates only 100 were released before MLBPA threatened suit and stopped release of the remaining sets - SCD, Krause Publications....Measures 3"x5"...Blank or "Mengler-Peterson 1975" stamp on back...Extremely Scarce Issue

The Orioles set is complete at 7 in my opinion. Some sources also list Tony Muser as an Oriole, but all the Musers I've seen show him as a White Sox.

You are correct; this is a great issue that Topps put out. The 1968 Topps Action AS sticker full panel you pictured sure is a nice one with Frank Robby large and in the center of it all.

Here is a Frank Robinson from a 1971 Baltimore Sun poster set...the posters are about 14 x 22...I would like to complete the set but unsure how many are in the set...I have the Frank and six other Orioles and know the set has at least 12 posters...I have a checklist for #2-12 and presume Brooks is #1 since he is not in #2-12...anybody have additional info or a complete checklist
