The more I look at this card, I have decided to keep it for my personal collection. This is QUITE POSSIBLY the best looking '4' out there!! No trash whatsoever on Ernie's face.....the card almost looks like it should be in a '6' holder if it were not for some chipping on the "green" on one of the reverse corners. Thanks anyway!

More power to you! I've had duplicates of that card for 10-12 yrs, and had always intended to sell the lesser one. I recently had it graded for this purpose, but still am not able to part with it (... or ANY of my collection for that matter!).

LOL!!! I hear you Ian. Unfortunately, I can't keep EVERYTHING or I would have alot of great cards and be dead broke!! But I have always had regrets on selling certain cards and wishing that I had them back because they looked nice for the grade. I didn't want that to be the case with this card, so I have decided to keep it. I enjoy looking at it - a really crisp specimen!

Good decision, Bobby! You wouldn't want anybody to be "stuck" with a trimmed card, right?

Funny you should say that!! The prospective buyer was worried about it being "trimmed", because he wanted it in a PSA holder. He asked if I would "guarantee" that it wasn't trimmed as he wanted to cross it over. I replied "No way could I guarantee that", and told him about my Sport Kings debacle. That is a sad state of affairs when one of the "premiere" grading companies out there, their cards are looked at with doubt in everyone's minds as to whether the card is trimmed or not. Sad.

I've been blessed with a company car and gas card the past 8-9 yrs!! (very lucky) That's one way I rationalize my addiction. I also have a fiancée who's bought my last 5 pairs of jeans (5-10 year life spans each), all my collared shirts, 2 pairs of dress shoes.. even my boxers! over the past 4 Christmases/bdays (more lucky). Without her to take care of me I'd probably wear only orange Giants tees, live in my car outside AT&T Park, dine at Arcos, and have a trunk full of Goudey's and T (and 2 Banks') cards.. She also governs my eBay browsing with stern looks.

Btw- saw the notes about trimmed cards getting past graders. Any opinion on which graders get duped more. I think very highly of SGC after reading a lot of the old posts on this sight, and cases just look nicer.. But I've got to admit I have a couple funny looking and smallish cards in holders. Not too too worried, but maybe I should be??

I would be a little worried. I thought SGC was even better than PSA at catching trimmed cards and "questionable" cards, but after my experience of breaking out a low grade 1933 Goudey Sport Kings, I am not so sure anymore. I bought the Sport King for conversion into my PSA set registry, and someone on one of the board gave pretty sound advice. Buy the card you want, in the HOLDER you want to avoid possible headache in the future. Sometimes it is fun to gamble, especially in this age of escalating BIN's and the relative lack of affordable graded cards anymore. That is what caused me to buy an affordable SGC version instead of its' PSA counterpart. In the future however, I will try to heed that wise advice I was given.
