As far as cards go this was my best pickup....and yes I do consider postcards to be cards.

I can't pick between these two so I have a tie for my best pickup...

Not sure if this is my absolute favorite - it's certainly up there - but in terms of cost vs. quality, I gotta give it the nod:

Wow Brad, I'm guessing that was from one of the Japanese tours? Was it known to you before you picked it up?

It is very difficult to choose just one - pickup (I made a few that I am thrilled about)

But... my top pickup would have to be......

The postcard is from the 1931 Tour of Japan. Consumers that mailed the postcard to the Shinko Seika company (the company that issued the postcard) had a chance to win one of 3,000 tickets being offered to see the historic series. The postcard contains a cancelled postage stamp along with the name and address of the individual that submitted the card. Several years ago, someone sent me a scan of a similar postcard, but that postcard was not for sale. This was the first of these postcards that I've seen for sale.

Not a high dollar card, but it was the last card needed to complete the Reds in T206 and it was formerly in Lionel Carter's collection which also means a lot to me.

Factoring in the manner in which the card was acquired, the price paid, etc. then this is definitely my best pick up of the year:

I got the Cobb raw from an ebayer with no history of selling cards. The scan in the listing was awful. I asked for a better scan and got the one on the left which was good enough to convince me that the card was real, untrimmed and in the seller's possession. I got the card for less than you'd pay for a 40/3 level.

Probably my dog Peach. After her, I would have to say my Pastime Novelty Matty, or maybe The Mighty Honus postcard that's in the current pickup thread.

Awesome stuff by everyone.

Jason C - a man after my own heart. Great Sox card.

Jeff W - nice Joe Jackson!

Dan K - that Wagner is beautiful. Nice clean red background.

Rob D - thats an ugly card.... you should return it to wherever you got it from

It is hard to pick my best having picked up the 1911 Zeenut Weaver, the T207 Weaver with Broadleaf back and the 1911 Obak Weaver, but for sheer visual appeal I will chose my Jack Chesbro 1905 Rotograph postcard:

I am going to have to go with these two...(huge thanks to JoeD for helping me take my collection up a notch this year). Runners-up include a couple of rarities, the T206 Cubs Lundgren and the T207 Saier, but they're not as fun as these!!!

This for the card side. I posted different items over in Memorabilia.

And because for some reason, it took me a really really long time to get an E93 Detroiter.

For many years, I had hoped to one day get all the high-numbered Cardinals in the Batter-Up series, but scarcity and price deterred me. Then, in one great eBay deal, I got most of them for about $5 each. Without their tops, they'll never see the inside of a slab, but I'm thrilled nevertheless ...

Tough choice between the Cobbs or ol' Deacon so a tie, although I prefer the Bat Off pose, which is possibly my favorite T206.

Dave - I briefly owned both the Cobb Green and the Phillippi. I really liked them both, but traded or sold for other things. I may kick myself forever for selling Deac - great great eye appeal and I may never be able to afford one that looks that good again!

I kind of like seeing cards here that I used to own, or where you know that others have owned something.

JK - I won't hijack this thread, but sometime soon I am going to start a thread for the Most Traveled Card among Net54'ers.

I have an E96 Pfeister that might be in the running, and I know of four individual owners within about a year of the Green Cobb above.

the card is nice but it re-acquainted me with seth from 19th century only. i was amazed that he remembered a lunch i had with him at the ac national 4 years ago (and gave me a deal on the card because of that!). he was more active with his auctions back then so he must've met alot of people that day and yet he still remembers lunch with a relative noob. one of the nicest people in the hobby.

If you're ever in Honolulu I'll be the grisly guy you'll see pushing a shopping cart down Kapiolani Boulevard jammed with black contractor bags full of old cardboard. Scored some serious icons and some fun cards this past year. All were my bestest pickups in 2007. Only the Billikens were an impulse buy (love the little gems; thanks, Matt). The rest were on my wantlist/dreamlist. The Bransfield has a pinhole big enough to break an axle but it got me over the hump on the T3 set. Checkout those Antarctic volcanoes spewing lava behind Sir Ernest. Gnarly!

Edited to add: Thanks for the nice comments below, guys. Beisbol been berry berry good to me in 2007. I don't figure to go nearly as hog-wild in 2008 although if a nice low-grade, decent eye-appeal T52 Mantle comes along I'll take a shot. I am just glad I don't covet T206s (the Monster told me to quit and I listened) otw I'd have a slew of huge bucks cards on the ol' wishlist.

It's a nice change from the usual ruckus to see all the great acquisitions everyone has posted. I particularly slobbered at the sight of DB Paul's Our Matty Pastime Novelty pc with its Greek god pose. I am a sucker for anything Mathewson. Also drooled profusely over Jeff L.'s Cobb items and Steve M.'s Chesbro roto postcard. Steve FDNY got it right: Eye candy! Gotta love it!

I have 3 or 4 cards that made my 2007 a Great Year - This one stands out the most b/c it is uncataloged by Standard Catalog/Krause Publications and after doing some research, I contacted SC and the Editor confirmed that this card would now be added to the 2009 SC as card #184 in the 1916 D350-1 Standard Biscuit version and until now has not been published(There could be more out there mis-labeled as Sport News, etc). Pretty Cool as PSA had missed the mark on what to actually label it... Very happy with the purchase and absolutely my favorite Wagner ever made as it shows the "man hands" wrapped around the bat and just looks nasty ! Would not want to face that off the mound !!
