Default T206 Green Cobb looks trimmed.

I am still learning how to recognized trimmed cards from scans but this one looks obvious to me and it got into a PSA 2 slab!?

Am I missing something here?

Marty - it's clearly off center - what causes you to think it is trimmed?

it is almost impossible to tell if a card is trimmed from a scan,(unless it's in a pro holder). opions differ on what is trimmed and what isn't. that is why 3rd party grading is so popular. if it is in a slab it is ok.

Actually, the preponderance of miscut green cobbs with large bottom borders and short top borders has been discussed on this board in the past. If I remember correctly, it was because they were positioned on the bottom card of the card sheets. There was even a thread a couple months back in which several board members posted their green cobbs to illustrate how common that cut was.

Anthony - not questioning that Green Cobbs are prone to OC cuts, but this reasoning "it was because they were positioned on the bottom card of the card sheets. " doesn't make sense to me as the cards were in vertical strips of the same player; Cobb would have been under another Cobb.

The top border looks too short (obviously) but the top right looks like the corner was snipped.

I may well have the exact reason wrong, but I did find the link I was thinking of. As always Ted provides some interesting insights into the T206 set.

edited to add: It was the Green Cobb with Piedmont 150 back which Ted specifically cited as often being miscut with wide bottom borders and short top borders. The card Marty linked to start this thread is a Piedmont 150 back.

You will find about 90% of the Green Cobb's printed with PIEDMONT 150 backs are consistently
o/c to the top border. This is also true for many of the Green Cobb's with SWEET CAPORAL 350
backs.

The better centered Green Cobb's are invariably found with.....

PIEDMONT 350
SWEET CAPORAL 150
SOVEREIGN 150
HINDU

I will not argue with the characteristic OC of the Piedmonts...
But I agree with Marty that the TR corner of the card appears clipped moreso than natural wear...

Hi Dave
No Doubt about it.... My card is WAY.... Oversized. In fact its so large it wouldn't fit into a PSA Holder... Be well Brian

Really? You think a card in a PRO holder would be trimmed? Denny Walsh doesn't think so, at least not when selling them.

Jeff,

That is a very cool looking Cobb..

Its funny how a micut where you don't see any border is not very attractive but one that far off looks really cool!
