I picked this up at a discount compared to what a graded 1 or 2 would be. The funny thing is that all W-517 cards are hand cut...so I'm at a loss to decipher when they get a number grade and when they get an "A". Minimum size maybe?

I agree, that makes no sense. I guess because it's into the border at the bottom, they decided not to give it a numerical grade.

I don't know why it is graded an "A".....it looks good to me.
But I'm not complaining, as this Joss is a recent upgrade in
my PIEDMONT set, and I got it for a very reasonable price.

My whole T206 collection is focused on this principle. The average grade of my, currently 48.5% complete, binder set is 1.46 (many As), and here are some examples of the eye appeal.
