Although I know this is not a true auction, he does state that the picture is one he pulled from the internet because he doesn't have a picture of his card - his is MINT!

Looks like I'm out of the bidding. His opening bid is $150,000 and requires a PayPal account. I just checked and I only have $149,965 in my PayPal account. I knew I shouldn't have purchased that PSA 4 T206 Rube Oldring the other day. Dammit.

The item description is a smile. He spells like my Golden Retriever.

Have any of these cards belonged to anyone other than grandpa? Did anybody ever get any of these from an uncle or a cousin? And it goes without saying that grandpa stored this in the attic...where else?

And what 50th anniversary of Babe Ruth does this card commemorate?

If the winner of this card is legit, I'll try finding him. I have some beautiful oceanfront property to sell him (I hope he can relocate to Iowa).

'If the buyer confirms the seller's statement about mutual agreement not to complete the transaction, the buyer will not receive an Unpaid Item strike and the seller will receive a Final Value Fee credit.'

Steve - Good point. Although I would imagine that if a buyer and seller complete such an agreement on multiple listings, ebay might catch on.

I think I'll send him an e-mail indicating I just inherited $200,000 from my grandpa and I'm interested in investing in this card since we didn't find anything in his attic.

well, he put up a real picture, and now we know what the "50th anniversary" means.. it's an Orioles replica card that they put out in 2004, the 50th anniversary of the team..

Looks like Gramps must have attended an Orioles game or went to the Ruth Museum before he checked out.

Sent the following question:

"I'm interested in acquiring this card. Since you don't have a picture of it and I'm in the DC area, I would like to look at it. Where and when can I inspect it? Thanks"

Received the following reply:

"o you must be from that show scare tactics oh wow im so honored but i just dont have the time ok and the picture is up there"

Is this some kind of inside baseball card lingo only intelligible to NET54 insiders?

Doesn't have the time for a $200,000 sale? Must be a very busy man.

It's obviously the legendary 1964 50th anniversary reissue of the 1914 Baltimore News Ruth rookie card. I believe this lucky fellow has the only one in existence meaning that it's worth at least $200,000 to a true Ruth collector. The fact that it's only 43 years old makes its' mint condition easier to understand. Yeah, that's it.

John
