OK, I dont think this is outing an auction (maybe it is). But this is a tough one. You may already know which auction Im talking about, its only been listed for about 30 minutes. The guy has 2 feedback, and cards are authentic, but I dont buy the story. The guy also has many new cards listed so obviously knows what he has (he obviously collects cards). He has new garbage mixed with multithousand dollar items. His only feedback was something he sold and ended auction early to sell to high bidder (who the heck does that???)

Fishy Fishy

I wrote and asked for more info .... I guess more to come.

Edited to say.....Now that I think of it and look closer Im going to retract my bid (I cant afford it anyhow) way too fishy almost something youd fly in and do the transaction in person deal (if legit, highly doubt it though).

cut pics
you can see the background color on back scan (in auction) is not consistent.

Like I said a scam was my biggest concern....It wasn't going to happen unless it was in person....

here's a story they just emailed me.... I had asked about other cards (being rather suspicous)

"No these are the 5 big names I picked out. There are a few more but they are all in NY. My mom came down for thanksgiving (i'm in FL) but before she came down I told her things to pick out and bring down for me. She brought these, a Ruth Autograph, a maris autograph (which i already sold), a Cobb Autograph, Buck Weaver that is in my other auction, a walter johnson auto that I sold to a local dealer and a few other items. I am only selling a small portion of the collection for holiday money. I didnt expect these to be worth too much, thought they were just store ad cards. Dealing with this kind of money makes me nervous. How would you pay? Would you come get them or Would I ship them?

Let me know, I am debating what to do. Get back to me and I'll give you my number and such"

A riot!!!

I asked him for a bigger scan of teh Ruth and here's the response:

"What kind of pics would u like, I have scanned them like 5 times and they look the same... I moved them around and they still look the same... is there something specific u want me to do?"

You can come along if you want to? We can share popcorn and pick up the cards at the same time...Maybe the seller will have some more good stories...btw, except for the Trucker Boy find I can't think of a lot of coups I have had but that was a good one...

another update:

"I am working on them as we speak, new scanner bought just for my holiday auctions so I am learning it as I go.

I ended the auction because I am getting 10 emails every 10 minutes about these and I cant keep up.. Apparently they are a hot commodity.

Would u just like to come look at them? Probably be easier?"

It seems he has ended the auction assuming he has at least 1 sucker in all the emails he has received. Let's make sure he continues to think he has that sucker

More from the seller...

"Matt,

I didnt get the scans finished last night, I went to bed, working on them now.

Just to let you know I have an offer of 3500 for a local guy who is willing to come get them tonight. To be honest I'd take best offer above that.... 3800... maybe.. let me know if you want them at that price... I'd have to have payment immediately though....

I will get doing the scans now.."

nah - I can't lead on that I am suspicious of him - he has to think I just want a better shot of the cards. Of course, he's going to have some difficulty doing that...

"I went to an office place in the next town over and had them scan the two you wanted... remind me never to do that again, charged me $10 per scan.

Let me know..

I just got ur email about the johnson too, your going to have to wait on that one until I can get my scanner scanning properly, not going back to that scanning place.. Sorry I wish I got your email before I left."

Unfortunately, the use of old auction scans by eBay scammers is all too frequent.

Of course, I didn't bother to check on a relatively expensive Mantle card I purchased off eBay recently, which was also stolen from Lelands.

But that is going to be the topic of another thread in the near future, that Leon has graciously cleared for me to post here. Just waiting on some additional information before posting.
