Ok I'll ask. How does one come up with a value of $1.25mm on a car that at best would be 100k used more like 75-85k real world value?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aston-Martin...US_Cars_Trucks

http://goldinauctions.com/userfiles/...anquishNBA.pdf

http://www.goldinauctions.com/2002-A...--LOT9735.aspx

Are NBA player signatures really pulling 20k+ each these days? If not then the folks at Classic Auto whatever are selling you quite a pipe dream saying this car has a $1.25mm dollar value IMO. Also the review included no mechanical so the car could be a shell with a ruined engine, chassis etc. and still be worth $1.25mm?? So this value is on the sigs alone? Please help me wrap my head around this....if it is on signatures I have some cars I need signed ASAP.

As a car guy I was taken back by this, what am I missing here Ken? I mean at $1.25mm one could by a few Zagtos, heck you might even find a used One 77 for cheaper....might even get a very nice DB5...etc.

Cheers,

John

P.S. Ken the Vanquish is still in production today it was brought back in late 2013 so you may want change that part of the write up. Just an FYI.

But this car has stealth mode, John. The fact that it can disappear has to add at least another $500k to the value. Just make sure to keep a fresh battery in the transmitter, or you might have some difficulty locating it in the parking lot at Wal Mart.

I am not a car appraiser, nor am I a car expert, nor do I spend money on cars.
The appraisal is posted online thru a link, and I believe the appraisers information is on it.

The car is being sold as a collectible. A piece of history of the 50th anniversary of the Naismith basketball hall of fame, and the induction of Michael Jordan. The purpose for the car existing was that, to commemorate the Basketball Hall of Fames historic anniversary. There is a video that goes with is online as it was part of a charitable venture. We will post that video as soon as possible. It cant be viewed as a 'used car with a bunch of signatures'.

I do not spend much money on cars. I would rather spend $100K or $500k on a sports memorabilia item. To some, my Babe Ruth game used bat collection, or my 500 HR jersey collection is a bunch of junk. My Ted Williams 1955 game used jersey or my 1956 Hank Aaron jersey is just 'old laundry' and to some, this car is a used aston martin with signatures. To others, hopefully, it is a one of a kind collectible, created for both a charitable purpose and to commemorate the great event of Michael Jordan's hall of fame induction. Someone may view the 1923 watch of Babe Ruth that was sold as a 'used Gruen watch' (comparison extreme, I will admit, but trying to make a point).
I am not in the 'used car business' and would not sell cars. This is a one of a kind collectible, created for a charitable purpose and to commemorate a historic event for the basketball fans.

In any event, to each his own.

Ken, noted most all collectibles values are some what subjective don't think any collector would disagree with you there.

However your appraiser put a very finite number or estimated value of $1.25 million dollars on a car that's used value is a fraction of that number.

While you may not be a car collector or into cars personally. You certainly are offering one for sale. Given that history and using say rough comparables would another non-traditional object signed by these 50 people for the same event even come close in value estimates? Like this....

http://goldinauctions.com/hakeem-ola...e-lot5153.aspx

I'm trying to understand how one comes to such a number when it's clearly not being driven from the automotive side.

I agree to each his own and who knows perhaps the number is low....just as a car guy I'm trying to wrap my head around the number and the value given by your outside guy.

Thanks for the reply, good luck with the auction.

Cheers,

John
