Default Can you identify the Yankees in this photo?

My father in law sent this photo to me asking which Yankees are in it. I’m not even certain these are Yankees, but the photo supposedly from 1949 or 1956.

The toy cars appear to be mid-1950's models, so the 1949 date is definitely not correct. I'd wager those cars on the top of the freight car are '56 models.

The guy on the far right is a bit reminiscent of Johnny Mize and sure has the large hands I remember shaking.

The one in the middle looks like he could be Jerry Coleman.

Could be. I can see it. Looks a little bit older than Bullet Bob, though.

Pretty nice layout, yes? Like that New Haven electric locomotive.

Definitely a young Danny Noonan in the middle there enjoying the trains (before learning how to properly wear a hat)...

I'm kinda surprised you're that adamant against it being Mize, Fred!

I can understand why someone might venture Allie, but I'll stick with Mize for time being.

Interesting to note that both men were retired as players in 1953 and '54. As noted, to me this photo has to date to '56 at the earliest due to the style of toy cars. Tell me that one on the top right of the freight car doesn't just scream 1956!

Let's say this dates from a couple years after '56...1958. Virgil Trucks was a Yankee in '58, as was McDougald. Coleman retired the previous season, but was serving as Personnel Director for the team in '58.

I feel kind of bad if I initially got this wrong. While I had the pleasure of meeting Mize, Virgil was my friend.

All you have to do is picture Virgil's classic '53T in your mind for comparison!

Nose and chin are similar. His right ear has the same prominent anti-helix (at least, I think that's what it's called; where's Mark Fimoff when you need him?). My vote is for Bullet Bob. If the ear fits, you must acquit.

There’s also a lighter colored strip of hair above his temple,
.. now I’m not pretending to be that guy from eBay 😬

Great accessorizing on those guys; watch, wedding ring, tie, and tie pin meeting the big city standards.

The Lionel Trains Library might narrow things down further: https://postwarlionel.com/search.php?search_query=1956

Example, here's that auto-loader: https://postwarlionel.com/2261ws-fiv...ight-set-1956/

You may be right; in fact, those children very well could belong to the players. Coleman had a son and Turley did too, born around 1954. McDougald's oldest and youngest were girls, which seems to fit the picture.

Here's a photo of the McDougald family from 1955 that I found on the web (back row middle is identified as a family friend):

Sure looks to me like these are his kids in the choo-choo photo, likely from 1957?
